Hey Baby, What Did You Eat Wednesday?

by Tiff

“Hey Baby” is right!  Did you all hear the news?  Jenn, the lovely WIAW party host, just announced this week that she is expecting a little one.  Congrats to her and her family!

It’s the last WIAW of February.  Can you believe it?  Time flies, eh?  I wasn’t loving my workout or my eats yesterday, so lets skip back to Monday’s instead.  Mkay?  (I actually just didn’t have photos of most of yesterday’s eats anyway.  Bad blogger, bad!)

First Breakfast: rice cake with peanut butter (followed by a 3-mile run with a warm up, incline intervals, and cool down plus a new back/biceps workout I hope to share soon)

treadmill

Second Breakfast: protein oats with berries (this never gets old)

oats

Snack: 10 raw almonds

Lunch: cabbage soup (this should last about 4 days)

soup

Snack: 1 egg and 1 pink lady apple (fiber + protein + delicious)

Dinner: 1/2 baked pork chop, baked sweet potato, and nature’s candy (aka – roast Brussels sprouts)

sprouts

Snack: olive tapenade hummuz crispz (if you’re wondering, yes… it bugged the heck out of me to intentionally misspell both “hummus” and “crisps”)

hummuz

  • Brussels, yay or nay?
  • Best thing you ate so far this week?

WIAW… and what I didn’t

by Tiff

Thanks for checking out another What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW) post.  This is mostly what I ate, but there’s also a wee bit on what I didn’t eat.  Confused?  Just keep scrolling…  Thanks Jenn for hosting another WIAW blog party!
Pre-Gym: rice cake & green tea (my workout was fab today, by the way, more on that tomorrow)

Post-Gym: protein oats (yaaaaay!) oats, whey, mininana, and chia seeds

oats

Snack: two sacher balls (so good!)

sacher

Lunch: chicken, broccoli, millet bowl (what I didn’t eat: free pizza ordered in for a meeting at work)

lunch

Snack: plain Oikos yogurt & 1/4 papaya… followed by a spoonful of pb right after work

oikos

Dinner: braised Brussels sprouts & two turkey white bean muffins (dinner was amazeballs)sprouts

Dessert: (what I didn’t eat: the ice cream calling to me from the freezer. Dinner was great and filling, so I tried to leave it at that.)

  • Ever brought your own lunch to a lunch meeting or social outing?
  • Is there anything calling to you right now?  I think that ice cream calls to me 24/7!

WIAW: Last Day of Veg Pledge

by Tiff

I made it through my veg pledge!  As you may remember, there was that social occasion slip-up, but I’d say the 28 days were still a success.  Today is actually the last day of my not-so-challenging challenge, so a lot of the meals I show here will be repeated today. As always, thanks to Jenn for hosting the weekly WIAW roundup!

Pre-gym: rice cake and SuperPump Max*

superpump

*Yes, I feel silly saying I actually tried something called “SuperPump Max,” but I actually kind of liked it.  This was my third time sampling this particular product, which Muscle & Fitness so kindly sent, and I’ve had a great workout every time.  I think it’s the caffeine more than anything, which can be helpful at 5:15 a.m.

Breakfast:egg whites, brown rice, rotel, and sauteed onion

wiaw

Snack: half a Core Power shake and 7 almonds

Lunch: salad (apple, dried cherries, cabbage, spinach, carrot, and natural lite honey mustard) & 2 tsp pb for dessert

wiaw    peeb

I weigh my dried cherries; those are dangerously good!

Snack: again, the other half of that Core Power shake and 7 almonds

almonds

Dinner: 2 homemade bean burgers (inhaled one before serving) and roast Brussels sprouts

dinner    wiaw

Snack: I don’t know how I was still hungry, but I was.  I followed up with another rice cake and peanut butter.

That’s a lotta’ yum!

Five for Friday: Link Love Edition

by Tiff

Yes, it’s another Five for Friday post.  I promise I’m not feeling uninspired.  In fact, it’s quite the opposite.  I have so much to share that I try and condense it down into one post.  Hopefully (at least) one of the five floats your boat.

1. I made Whole Foods Market’s Cabbage and Cheddar Gratin Saturday for dinner.  Kevin and I were both pleasantly surprised. I didn’t take any pictures since it wasn’t particularly photogenic; that’s a pic from WF’s site.

Note: I probably used less spice/herb, and I shredded my own cheese from a block of white Wisconsin cheddar.

2. Brittany posted a link to a comical post by Sohee Lee Fitness.  Check it out here.  Now.

3. I created my version of the LiveFit turkey muffins on Sunday.  Delicious!  I spiced them up a bit with cayenne pepper and a little horseradish, and they were almost too spicy for me.  (Hint: Eat the veggies first.)

Oh, and the recipe calls for 2 lbs lean turkey, but I used 1 lb turkey and 1 can white beans.  Recommended!

4. I found a great warm-up video on Hulu.  It has a 10-minute cardio session focused on arms followed immediately by a 10-minute cardio session focused on abs.  I did the second half before completing a little ab work last night.

5. I wanted to make these Salmon Burgers on Wednesday.  I bought TJ’s canned Alaskan salmon, but I couldn’t do it.  Between the smell, the skin, and the bones, I nearly puked.  I called Kevin into the kitchen to ask him if he minded cooking for me.  He took one look at the salmon and said he wasn’t eating it.

The Brussels sprouts were already roasting in the oven, so we quickly came up with Plan B… of course, Plan B isn’t on the LiveFit plan, but it was pretty darn tasty.  Pasta n’ sprouts.

While we’re on the topic of dinner, this was part of Sunday supper.  I think Leia’s using the force to summon the food.

I hope everyone has a lovely Friday Eve.  I have a mini announcement planned for tomorrow, so hopefully you check back for that too.  Oh, and I know I haven’t mentioned it this week, but LiveFit is going well.  All this bulking sure makes me hungry though!

  • What’s one food you didn’t like but now you do?  *Surprisingly enough, mine is not sprouts; it’s broccoli.
