Shamrock Race Recap

Ethan finished his first race this weekend.  He may not have run it, but he and I made a great team.  (Photo = Carbo loading the night before with a Hop, Drop, & Roll by NoDa Brewing.)

We even finished in first place.  Okay, we got first place of all female baby joggers, and there were only two female runners with baby joggers, but who’s counting???  (707 total runners)

I planned to leave E at home or at the finish line with Kevin, but Kev decided to work that day.  Humph.  Well that left E and I to manage ourselves, and he did great by sleeping through most of the run.

I did so much better than expected.  We had our first (and only) stroller run last week, so I had low expectations for a stroller race, especially given those friggin hills!  However, I finished in 37 min 17 sec (about 9 min 13 sec per mile).  (Photo = post-run brew)

The time would have been better if I didn’t have to start at the back.  Passing walkers during a race is already hard enough, but working your way up through the crowd with a stroller is a whole other ballgame.  It took the entire first mile to work into my pace.

In short – I had a great time, and Ethan received lots of compliments.  I’m looking forward to another stroller race and many other training runs.

  • Did you celebrate St. Patty’s Day this weekend?  If so, how?  I ran the themed race and also cooked corned beef and cabbage for dinner last night.  Oh, and I also wore plenty of green!

  1. Congrats! I hate that they made you start at the back — so dangerous for everyone involved. You need to do the 4th of July Spectacular 4-miler — strollers get a full minute head start!

  2. Oh my goodness, you run faster with a stroller than I do on my own ;) haha CONGRATS!!!

  3. Congrats on the race lady! And of course, I love that you ran it with a little sidekick ;-)

  4. Great Job Tiff!! I can only imagine weaving. Thru those walkers and such!!! Way to go with the flow and run anyways!!

    Xoxo from Michigan

  5. Confession: I had no idea that you could race with a stroller  Great job on the race, lady! I love how you didn’t let a little change of plans get in the way!

  9. Holy cow that is impressive! I can’t imagine running with a stroller. That is quite an awesome pace :) Nice work, lady!

  10. Ahhh, look at you doing the stroller racing! So inspiring. I am gearing up for my second half-marathon (first one I’ve ever trained properly for), and the thought of a 9 min 13 sec mile WHILE pushing a stroller and going up hills and passing walkers and other runners makes me want to collapse! You rock, girl. Ethan is lucky to have such a kick ass mommy.

  11. That is so cool that you can race with a baby! Congrats! Love that you had a beer the night before. That’s one of my rituals.

    Woo-hoo congrats!! I could never, ever race with a stroller — you’re a rockstar :)

Also – yay for post-race beers. They are the best.
