“Hey Baby” is right! Did you all hear the news? Jenn, the lovely WIAW party host, just announced this week that she is expecting a little one. Congrats to her and her family!

First Breakfast: rice cake with peanut butter (followed by a 3-mile run with a warm up, incline intervals, and cool down plus a new back/biceps workout I hope to share soon)
Second Breakfast: protein oats with berries (this never gets old)
Snack: 10 raw almonds
Lunch: cabbage soup (this should last about 4 days)
Snack: 1 egg and 1 pink lady apple (fiber + protein + delicious)
Dinner: 1/2 baked pork chop, baked sweet potato, and nature’s candy (aka – roast Brussels sprouts)
Snack: olive tapenade hummuz crispz (if you’re wondering, yes… it bugged the heck out of me to intentionally misspell both “hummus” and “crisps”)
- Brussels, yay or nay?
- Best thing you ate so far this week?

Yay to Brussels sprouts, but only if they’re roasted. Boiled ones turn me off!
February 28, 2013 at 8:12 am
Agreed. Steamed is okay, but no method really compares to the crispy baked/roasted ones.

Love brussel sprouts!!! Best thing I ate this week was the Thai food I had on Sunday
February 28, 2013 at 8:12 am
Thai food is always delicious!
February 27, 2013 at 7:25 am
I roasted a massive bag of brussels on monday. So yeah, they will be thrown in everything I eat for the rest of the week…
February 28, 2013 at 8:13 am
And where can one find this massive bag of brussels of which you speak? I need more in my life!
February 27, 2013 at 7:43 am

I love roasted brussel sprouts! And breakfast looks delicious

I love roasted brussels sprouts. I love the crunchy texture they have and I like pairing them with bacon!
February 28, 2013 at 8:13 am
Oh gawsh… adding bacon sounds like perfection!
February 27, 2013 at 9:27 am
Oh Lordy . . . brussels sprouts? YAY!! A couple of weeks ago they were on a ridiculous sale. We were eating brussels sprouts with dinner every night for days on end. It was awesome!!
February 28, 2013 at 8:14 am
My hubby (and myself) would be so happy about that!
February 27, 2013 at 9:31 am
Haha! I’m not sure I’d refer to brussels sprouts as nature’s candy, but I do enjoy them. They have to be roasted though… any other way is just… no.

I love brussel sprouts in all forms. However, I never serve them for a meal with Grandpa. It is one of the few foods that is on his “no thanks” list. I am learning more and more about roasting them and how incredibly yummier they are that way though!
Also, Tiff, does the six small meals instead of three meals create a better body burn of calories and/or other healthful benefits? I only ask because I am trying to knock off about 10 pounds and can’t seem to get them to move. I can Google, but would like to get your input….but only if/when you have time to reply. BTW: Am again using combos of the two W/O from magazines you gave me and they ARE getting some muscles burning that I forgot I had. Thanks : )

I’ve read a lot of things saying 5 small meals help fuel metabolism, but I’ve also heard that the square meals are just as good. I just know that I’m a snacker. If I eat three regular meals, I’ll still need a snack. I’d rather plan well-rounded meals and snacks that balance each other out rather than just reach for something void of nutrients or a bit too indulgence. Good luck with those pesky ten!

I love using frozen brussels sprouts… I start with a little olive oil in the pan, add in some frozen chopped bacon (about one slice) and then a bag of frozen sprouts. Cook until the bacon is crispy and sprouts are tender. Sprinkle with a little garlic powder. YUM! My husband, who likes only about 6 vegetables, loves this recipe!
February 28, 2013 at 8:17 am
Mmmmm, what isn’t better with bacon?!?!
February 27, 2013 at 10:37 am
mmm roasted brussel sprouts are definitely the best way to enjoy them, which reminds me its been far too long since ive had any!!
February 27, 2013 at 11:42 am
Your second breakfast looks a lot like my bros!
February 27, 2013 at 12:42 pm
Definitely a yay on brussels sprouts…people make fun of me for how often I eat them. Sad, but true. I’ve been having a craving for cabbage soup lately, too – weird, right? It’s probably because of how cold and snowy it’s been in Chicago!
February 28, 2013 at 8:18 am
No soup craving is weird if there’s snowy weather around!
February 27, 2013 at 1:24 pm
I agree with your description of brussel sprouts! THEY ARE AMAZING! And especially delicious since they’re in season right now!
February 28, 2013 at 8:18 am
I know, right? Now if I could only find them on sale!
February 27, 2013 at 1:56 pm
Yum, I love hummus chips…and also hate the misspellings haha

Brussel Sprouts are the one vegetable I can’t stand! I’ve tried so many times but I just can’t do it. When I was a kid I used to peel off each leaf and swallow it with milk so I wouldn’t have to taste them. Ha!
February 28, 2013 at 8:19 am
Ha – we all have our one (okay… some of us have more than one). That’s the way I am with asparagus.
February 27, 2013 at 6:08 pm
I did hear the news. I’m so excited for our WIAW host
Love the color of your oats. Berries are the ultimate breakfast treat.
I haven’t had brussel sprouts in a long long time, but I’m positive that I’d love them if I tried them again, because I basically like all vegetables. Haha. But, I think brussels are a little hard on the tummy, so I’ll be staying away for now.
February 28, 2013 at 8:20 am
I know, right? Berries are such a lovely start to the day!
February 27, 2013 at 7:36 pm
Glad to find another brussel sprout lover! I’ve been eating them every day lately!
