Motivation & ALT

by Tiff

Hello!  First up, big thanks to all the supportive comments on yesterday’s post.  I just had to put it out there, and I knew y’all would be accepting.  K, now moving on…

My morning workouts have been frustrating lately.  I usually roll out of bed and hit the gym – no question, just habit.  However, I’ve been laying in a bed lately debating with myself.

If I sleep in now, I can just do some stretching on my lunch break…. If it doesn’t rain later, I can get an outdoor walk in after work instead of a treadmill one this morning… I probably don’t NEED to work out as often, do I?…

You get the idea.  What’s up with all this dialogue?  Why the change?  Thank goodness, I’ve still been getting it done, and 90% of the time, once I actually get my butt to the gym, I have a pretty fabulous workout.  (kinda like my hilly 5k walk yesterday)

But I suppose we all have times of motivation peak and pitfall, eh?  I’ve already written a post on motivation, so there’s no need to re-hash all that.  But I can say that what’s working for me now is just telling myself to go and give it 20 minutes.  Promise to give 20 minutes, and I bet you’ll probably end up completing a full (or nearly full) and stellar workout.

Speaking of workouts, have you heard of Larabar‘s latest creations?  They’re called ALT bars, and I was lucky enough to receive samples last week through my FitFluential family.  I love Larabars, so I was pretty pumped.

The calories are close to regular Larabars, but there are 10g of pea protein in these babies.  What a great post-workout treat!

My only beef with these bars is the added brown rice syrup.  Larabars have never tried to be low-carb, which is fine by me because they get natural sweetness from fruits.  However, I just don’t think the added sweetness was necessary in these.

Nevertheless, they taste great!  I dug right into the lemon flavor first.  Major yum!  (And no, I’m not paid to say that.)

  • Have you tried Larabars or Alt bars?  Got a favorite flavor?

Power Pyramid Treadmill Workout

by Tiff

Helloooo!  I’ve got a quick post for you today.  Given the hand situation, typing isn’t really my friend at the moment.  So here it goes!

Yesterday’s treadmill workout: pp

Be sure to end with a cool down and stretches.  While walking, pump your arms, use good posture, squeeze that tush, and stand up straight to engage your abs.  Don’t hold onto the handles!  Of course, I bet y’all know that already…

Yesterday’s dinner:pork

So yummy!  It was sliced pork tenderloin, soy sauce, terriyaki, snap peas, baby corn, carrots, and bell pepper served over my favorite rice. Sorry I have no recipe, but it was approximately a pound of pork, 1 TBS olive oil, 2 TBS low sodium soy sauce, and 2 TBS low sodium terriyaki.

Have good one!

It’s not all r&r over here…

by Tiff

I know my last few posts have mainly been about vacation and rest, but there’s a little more to it than that.  My trip last week threw a wrench in my workout schedule, but I’ve been getting back into the swing of things.

Here’s the plan that I’ve been half following for the past two weeks.  I plan to continue it for the next two or three weeks (including this week).  It has some fellow blogger inspiration, and I like it so far!

workout

I’m a leg day ninja!

Though I mix up the sets and reps, many are often completed at 3 or 4 sets of 8 reps.

Monday – shoulders/triceps

  • military press
  • lateral DB raise
  • front DB raise
  • overhead DB triceps extension
  • bench dips
  • triceps machine
  • swim or elliptical

Tuesday – abs

Wednesday – chest/biceps

  • Laura’s Workout (check out her page for the details)
  • long treadmill walk with incline

Thursday – lower body

Friday – back

Saturday/Sunday

  • long walk with the hubby and active rest (ie: cleaning, yard work, etc.)

Yesterday I followed the weight lifting plan and added 30 minutes on the elliptical.  I also went for a solo walk after work, and I took another brisk walk with Kevin when he returned from work.  (Can you tell we actually had a nice day? Charlotte was overdue for one of those!)

Dating Throwback: Our 1st Easter (2006)

Yup, I’m still keeping pretty busy around here, but don’t let the workouts fool you . I don’t think that even hammerstrength rows and heavy leg press can undo all that Easter ham!  Who’s with me?

Livin for the Weekend

by Tiff

I guess you could say I’m living for the weekend.  Who else is with me?  After making this morning’s mushy post, I decided to post again this evening instead of tomorrow morning.  So though I’m a bit early, I’m gonna’ go ahead and say it…

Happy Friday!!!

More importantly, Happy Friday Before St. Patty’s Day!!!  Around this time last year I was headed to Savannah, GA.  Good times.

savannah

No worries, I still have fun times planned for this weekend too.  I’ll be at a festival, and I’ve heard there are plenty of fun runs, bar crawls, etc. around town.

Though I’m still working on “un-slumping” myself, I can assure you that all your kind words are definitely helping.  Know what else is helping?  Extra endorphins and a good dinner.

Here’s the treadmill workout I did this morning.  It wasn’t a cake walk, but I wasn’t all that sweaty after either.  It’s just a good ole’ walking workout with plenty of incline/speed changes to keep your mind off the dreadmill.

Kevin and I just finished up roast broccoli and a roast pork loin for dinner.  Major yum!  I served his with a pretzel roll from Trader Joe’s.  I was pretty jealous.  Don’t worry though, I’m saving up for my ice cream that I’ll have in about half an hour.  (What can I say?  I plan ahead.)

Fitness Friday… Flop

by Tiff

Happy Friday! I hope March is treating you well so far. By the way, where did January go? My day is going well so far, but I guess it’s still early, isn’t it? I’m ready to hit the gym and make it count, especially since I created a new workout.

Sadly, my workouts haven’t gone so well for me this week, which is a major bummer because I’m really pumped about the new plan. Oh well. Some days you feel fit, and some days you just flop.

workout

*FYI- it’s high-rep
The issues? Well Monday was actually pretty good. I’m running slowly right now, but I’m not letting it get me down… too much. Tuesday wasn’t so great. I got pretty dizzy on the stair climber. I guess I got my HR up a little too fast, so I had to cut the cardio a bit short.

Wednesday was okay, but on Thursday, my foot wasn’t letting me run. I only got in 10 minutes before hobbling over to the stationary bike. So frustrating! It’s okay; I know that today’s workout is going to be better. If my foot is agreeable, Saturday’s workout will be good too!

Rather than continue on with my workout frustrations, let’s share a little Fitness Friday link love instead.

Feel free to link up to a workout – whether it’s one you’ve tried, one you want to try, or one you created. I think we could all use a little dose of inspiration. Have a great weekend!
