New Suit

by Tiff

I got a brand new suit!  This isn’t a fashion post, and I have no upcoming interviews.  I do, however, have a date.  A date with the pool.

suit

Isn’t it cute sexy practical?  I’ve never owned a swimsuit before that was actually made for ::gasp:: swimming.  I don’t even think I’ve owned a one-piece since 6th grade.  If anyone’s interested, I got it at SwimOutlet.com

I got to take it for a test dive yesterday.  Not bad!  It didn’t make me any better at swimming, but I still had a nice lil’ workout anyhow.  5 min swim, 5 min walk, 5 min swim, 5 min walk, 5 min swim.  Done.

Oh, I also did this shoulder/triceps workout before swimming:

arms

On a side note, this also happened yesterday.  Womp Womp.

quest

It’s not as sad as it seems.  I got this box from GNC, and each bar was rock hard.  I don’t know if it was just a bad shipment or what, but I am happy to have an excuse to buy more.

The box I got directly from Quest was great, as was the one I ordered from Drugstore.com.  In case others have run into this problem, removing the wrapper and throwing them in the microwave for a wee bit helps soften them up a bit.  Sadly, I don’t like them as much warm.

Friday Fitness

by Tiff

Goodness knows I need to focus on my fitness! Wednesday was quite indulgent. Luckily the rest of the week has been fairly tame, which is good since I have two holiday parties this weekend. Later today, my office is going bowling, so there will be free pizza n’ beer. Tomorrow Kevin and I will attend our neighborhood shindig. Busy Busy Busy!

but not too busy for exercise

Monday was chest and triceps day. I also did some cardio, but I can’t remember what it was. Anyway – here’s the lifting part.

push it out

Tuesday was leg day. Wowzers. That wasn’t easy. I powered up with sets of around 15 reps and totally owned the leg press! Wednesday was a back and biceps routine. I’ll be sharing that next week if ya’ want it.

leg day

Yesterday morning, I did physical therapy exercises and this yoga video, which I enjoyed, and I went for a run later in the day.

Today I’ll be hitting the gym again for shoulders, abs, and whatever cardio strikes my fancy. Tomorrow I’ll complete another 3-mile run.

This will be my plan through the remainder of December and possibly a week or two into January.

Have a happy Friday!

Tuesday Triceps

by Tiff

I hope you had a nice Monday.  Mine wasn’t too bad.  Well, I tried a tofu recipe that was downright awful, but I guess it happens.  That’s what I get for not checking the reviews before whipping it up, right?

Kevin, being the sweetheart that he is, ate it without complaining; though frankly, he didn’t have to complain.  He just gave a look of relief once I admitted defeat because knowing that he wouldn’t ever have to eat it again. Fair ‘nough.

not sweaty

This Saturday pic is only here to make me feel better about the sweaty pictures below. #sorryimnotsorry

Since the food wasn’t so awesome, let’s move onto fitness.  I had a lovely run on Sunday.  I don’t normally work out on Sundays, but I just genuinely wanted to run.

Yesterday’s workout was pretty good too. I love the results I’m  seeing with my current routine, and I think I’ll stick with it a while longer.  In case you missed it, here are both vague and detailed sections of my current plan.

On the arm day, I throw in some bench dips.  You’re all probably familiar with hardcore regular triceps dips and the modified version, bench dips.  I prefer to kick up the modified version just a bit by incorporating a stability ball.

tricepstricepstriceps

I also throw a plate on my legs while I do these in the gym for a little extra umph.  Tried this one yet?  I’m a fan.  Even though it’s not my all-time favorite move for triceps, I’m happy to rotate it into the mix.

When developing full-body plans, I like to do 2 exercises per muscle group (on average), and with area-specific plans, I go for approximately 3 exercises per muscle group (more if including compound movements).  In summary, I need a minimum of 4 for most muscle groups, but that’s just my not-a-certified-personal-trainer opinion.

Triceps Tricks

by Tiff

Remember how I said I refrained from pizza & cookies at Thursday’s office gathering?  Yeah… my willpower is relatively respectable, but it lacks staying power.  Yesterday I wanted something bad.  I wanted something sinful.

I gave into my deepest, darkest desires.  To be more specific, I gave into my deep-fried-est, dark-sauce-est desires, and I ordered take-out sesame chicken.  It was just as glorious as I imagined…

chinese

… except it was *more* glorious than I imagined because it came with brown rice.  It didn’t last long.

gone

Sometimes you’ve just gotta’ go for it.  Other times, you’ve also just gotta’ run.  I’m about to meet my running buddy for a 3-mile run around the neighborhood, but before I go, I want to show you the tricips tricks that I promised yesterday.

1 – Kickback with a Twist

2 – Overhead Triceps Press with a Squeeze

3 – Overhead Triceps with Portability

I usually only do 1-3 triceps exercises during 1 workout.  I do 1 when I’m working a full-body routine.  I do 2 when I’m focusing on chest & triceps only.  (Many chest moves also engage triceps.)  I do 2-3 when I’m focusing specifically on arms, like bis and tris day.

I hope these little tricks help you change up your typical hum-drum moves.  I like that they give a little added umph.  (PS – If you didn’t catch my Friday Fitness post yesterday, I recommend it!)

Okay… I’m off to run.  What are you doing to stay fit this weekend?  Or are Saturdays/Sundays your rest days?
