New Suit

by Tiff

I got a brand new suit!  This isn’t a fashion post, and I have no upcoming interviews.  I do, however, have a date.  A date with the pool.

Isn’t it cute sexy practical?  I’ve never owned a swimsuit before that was actually made for ::gasp:: swimming.  I don’t even think I’ve owned a one-piece since 6th grade.  If anyone’s interested, I got it at SwimOutlet.com

I got to take it for a test dive yesterday.  Not bad!  It didn’t make me any better at swimming, but I still had a nice lil’ workout anyhow.  5 min swim, 5 min walk, 5 min swim, 5 min walk, 5 min swim.  Done.

Oh, I also did this shoulder/triceps workout before swimming:

On a side note, this also happened yesterday.  Womp Womp.

It’s not as sad as it seems.  I got this box from GNC, and each bar was rock hard.  I don’t know if it was just a bad shipment or what, but I am happy to have an excuse to buy more.

The box I got directly from Quest was great, as was the one I ordered from Drugstore.com.  In case others have run into this problem, removing the wrapper and throwing them in the microwave for a wee bit helps soften them up a bit.  Sadly, I don’t like them as much warm.

  • Do you swim regularly?  Do you find it as boring as I do?
  • Ever had a bad box/bag/batch of a product you like?

In Need of Cat Nap

by Tiff

Exhausted.  That’s the first word I’d pick to describe myself right now.  This picture of Cleo shows exactly how I feel.  She’s totally passed out, but she’s still got a content little grin on her face.  (What?  You know you give your pets people-like expressions too.)

I was up early Saturday with a lot on my to-do list.  Remember that barre video I linked to in Friday’s post?  I recommend you check it out if you’re into that kind of thing.

I did these two videos back-to-back on Saturday morning.  Though I wasn’t sore after, my quads were definitely feeling it!

After a couple errands, Kevin and I drove up to Raleigh to meet some friends.  They’re getting married in a few months; aren’t they cute???  All of us got to watch the Hurricanes beat the Panthers.  Go Canes!  (my first NHL game)

Sunday was the usual- cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, and my favorite show, 60 Minutes.  I whipped up some tasty stuff though, including some awesome muffins, which I will share with you tomorrow, my lunch for the week, and this awesome dinner.  Winnner!

Tuesday Triceps

by Tiff

I hope you had a nice Monday.  Mine wasn’t too bad.  Well, I tried a tofu recipe that was downright awful, but I guess it happens.  That’s what I get for not checking the reviews before whipping it up, right?

Kevin, being the sweetheart that he is, ate it without complaining; though frankly, he didn’t have to complain.  He just gave a look of relief once I admitted defeat because knowing that he wouldn’t ever have to eat it again. Fair ‘nough.

not sweaty

This Saturday pic is only here to make me feel better about the sweaty pictures below. #sorryimnotsorry

Since the food wasn’t so awesome, let’s move onto fitness.  I had a lovely run on Sunday.  I don’t normally work out on Sundays, but I just genuinely wanted to run.

Yesterday’s workout was pretty good too. I love the results I’m  seeing with my current routine, and I think I’ll stick with it a while longer.  In case you missed it, here are both vague and detailed sections of my current plan.

On the arm day, I throw in some bench dips.  You’re all probably familiar with hardcore regular triceps dips and the modified version, bench dips.  I prefer to kick up the modified version just a bit by incorporating a stability ball.

tricepstricepstriceps

I also throw a plate on my legs while I do these in the gym for a little extra umph.  Tried this one yet?  I’m a fan.  Even though it’s not my all-time favorite move for triceps, I’m happy to rotate it into the mix.

When developing full-body plans, I like to do 2 exercises per muscle group (on average), and with area-specific plans, I go for approximately 3 exercises per muscle group (more if including compound movements).  In summary, I need a minimum of 4 for most muscle groups, but that’s just my not-a-certified-personal-trainer opinion.

Sweatin’ on Saturday

by Tiff

I have a new move for you today, and I’m pretty pumped about it.  You know what else I’m pumped about?  My pumped up kicks!  They make training much more comfy!  (And I just like saying “pumped up kicks” because I love that song...)

Okay… here’s the video.  This is me explaining my version of the bench step-up.  Yes, I still feel goofy watching myself on film, but due to the success of last week’s cross-back lunge video, I thought I’d make another.  Enjoy!

If you try this move, please let me know by linking up or commenting.  I’d love to know if y’all like it.  I’m also open to other suggestions.  You know I’m not physical therapist, personal trainer, or anything like that, but if you have a trouble spot you’d like to tone, I can tell you what works for me!

Lastly – don’t be jealous, but this was my awesome dinner.  I had spaghetti squash and meat-less balls.  Yum!  Kevin had real pasta.

Our friends that came over for wine last night brought bake-shop brownies.  I avoided them all night, but finally had a piece of a peanut butter one to be nice.  I was so proud of myself for not going overboard, especially after a couple glasses of Chianti!  I even got them to take the leftovers home.  Woohoo!

In addition, I have already completed my quick run for today.  I often forget how good it feels to make good choices.

Have a great weekend!
