WIAW: Holiday Treats

by Tiff

A ‘What I Ate Wednesday’ post seems like a great way to recap some of my holiday fun.  I wasn’t good about taking pictures of the family this year, but at least I got a few of the food, right?  #foodbloggerproblems

I didn’t get a photo of each meal (especially lunch), but here are some of the highlights…

As you can see, my looooong weekend included lots of sweets, a bit of wine, and even some exercise sprinkled into the mix.  I had a great time with the folks, but as usual, I’m happy to get back to my normal routine.  Except the work part….

Weekend Review

by Tiff

This Monday’s pretty marvelous, which is why I’m linking up with Healthy Diva Eats for her weekly Marvelous In My Monday post.  Here’s some of why I’m in a good mood…

#MIMM

Due to all the snow in the Midwest, my parents’ flight was cancelled.  No fear, they decided to drive to NC instead.  By the time they arrived we all needed a couple of these.**Side Note: I had two beers Friday, and both were great.  I tried Highland’s Thunderstruck Porter (pictured) and Bell’s Porter.

Saturday morning consisted of a nice (but cold) 5-mile run and pumpkin protein pancakes.

as well as plenty of fun for both silly kitties and silly dadies.  (I took the fam to Triple City Brewing.)

I made the Nutella cheesecake with Oreo crust again, but we also had some of Kristin’s (Stuft Mama’s) cookies.  Yum!

We wrapped up Sunday with The Hobbit in 3D (hints Kevin’s hipster-but-not glasses) and dinner at Flemming’s Steakhouse.

Today will be church, ham, and more dessert.  Merry Christmas, Y’all!

Un-Vegan, Full-Fat, Full-Sugar Goodness

by Tiff

Regular readers know, I like to healthify things.  I like to healthify things a lot.  It’s a good habit/hobby to have.  However, not everything needs to be healthified.

Nutella is one of them.  Oh… and Oreos.  And cheesecake.  Better yet – Nutella cheesecake with Oreo crust

Kevin’s birthday is Thursday, but since I had Friday off from work, I decided to make him a birthday non-cake.  He doesn’t really like sweets, but he occasionally enjoys a good cheesecake.  He also approves of Nutella ever since I made him try it in Italy.  When I saw this recipe, it was really a no-brainer.

So why the full-fat, white sugar, and everything else?  Magic.  Sometimes you’ve just got to let go, quit worrying, and let the chocolate do it’s magic.  Y’all knew chocolate was magical, right?

Kevin is always supportive of my recipe flops, tofu dinners, and whatever else I put on the table. He deserved his own special birthday cake… minus the cake.

Here’s my history with Oreos.  The last time I bought a pack, I ate an entire sleeve (1/3 of pack) in the car on my way home from the grocery store.  That happened in high school, but I have been terrified of buying Oreos ever since.

I was also worried I’d over-eat these bars.  But you know what?  I didn’t.  Instead of gorging myself on 5 in a sitting, I enjoyed 1 a day without feeling deprived or guilty.  I made something rich – something good (really good), and I allowed myself to enjoy it.  This was a great feeling.

I even allowed myself a special Oreo before putting away the package.  Soooooo worth every calorie!
