Busted!

by Tiff

Healthy Eating Plans = Busted.  Veg Pledge = Busted.  Yup, it happened.  First off, I have waaaaay too much Halloween candy.  I think I may toss it.  Throwing away Reese’s seems sinful, but I really can’t eat all this.

On Thursday, Kevin and I went to a Bible study for married couples.  As you can imagine, this is an incredibly traditional group.  Incredibly.  Friends from Kev’s company were there with us.

So when gumbo was served for dinner, I smiled, and I ate it.  No mention of any veg pledge from me!  Sometimes you’ve just got to roll with it.

veg

I stuck with the veg pledge last night when we met some friends at Mellow Mushroom, but the healthy eating plans were totally busted.  I may have leftovers, but I have no regrets!  I’m looking forward to chowing down on leftovers for lunch after my run this morning.

The veg pledge will most likely be busted again tonight.  We’re meeting that same group for more gumbo at a LSU v Bama viewing party.  Hmmm, gumbo… I bet you can guess which side our friends support.

Work Hard & Play Hard

by Tiff

This weekend I worked hard and played hard.  Usually that’s how it goes, but I guess I technically did it backwards.  I played a little Thursday, and I played a bit more Friday before working hard on Saturday.  (It was my b-day weekend – I’m allowed!)

On Friday, I enjoyed a Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat at the house with a few friends.  (Gotta’ drink the wheat beer before it goes out of season.)  We all enjoyed a little happy hour before loading up & heading out to Mellow Mushroom for dinner.

pizza

The bday girl got to pick where we went to dinner.  Ummm… duh – of course I chose pizza!

hoppy

Kevin and I ordered Foothills Hoppyum with dinner.  The waiter accidentally poured an extra pint, soooo we split it.  (Twist my arm!)  Side note – I loooooove this beer.  If you like IPAs, you must try it!

This is where the “play hard” ends and “workd hard” begins.  I woke early Saturday to roof a house.  What???  Yeah – I’m not sure what I was thinking when I signed up either.

roof

This was my first Habitat for Humanity build, and I had a blast.  (I didn’t even fall off the roof!)  The other members were really cool, so we all went for fish tacos and beer after the build.  These are my kind of people!

build

It’s not just diet n’ exercise that are about balance – it’s kind of a life thing.  Work hard ~ Play Hard.  Eat Salads ~ Sometimes Get Pizza.  Sounds good to me!

Go Tigers!

by Tiff

This weekend my Tigers did not disappoint. Clemson had a great game, and I had a great weekend. I tried a new beer, ate a healthy dinner, and relaxed with friends on Friday. Saturday was a bit more exciting and included significant tailgating. I’ll spare you all the nitty-gritty details, but there was some of this

the boys

and too much of this (okay… all of it).

Mellow Mushroom calzone

Although I had a great time in Clemson, I took some time Sunday to recount my indulgences***. I discovered that I ate/drank twice the calories I normally eat/drink on a weekday. (By the way, dinner was paired with a Victory Hop Devil.)

Since I often indulge on weekends, I’m not floored by this discovery, but it was still an eye-opener for me. I don’t regret eating my weight in calzone because it really was that delicious, but I hope to be more mindful of my splurges in the future.

To help heal my veggie-starved, fat-stuffed body, Sunday was a bit healthier. I drank water and coconut water to combat the sodium of Saturday’s treats. I also ate my greens.

dinner salad

The dinner above was friggin’ awesome. I had been drooling over that salad dressing in the store for a while now, and I’m so glad I finally bought it. The salad included spinach, dressing, half a pear, and cashews. As you can see, I added a side of French bread.

How was your weekend? Did your team win too?
