Oy Vey… I’m Sick

by Tiff

Yesterday was a loooong day. Work was pretty lame, and I was feeling pretty cruddy. I woke up with a sore throat, so I skipped my planned tabata workout. I still completed some pilates though, and with my free time, I made coffee and banana oats.

I wish I could say the warmth from the oats n’ coffee helped my throat, but I didn’t. I still carried these to the office.

For dinner, I went for the standard, chicken noodle. (BTW: Lots of cake was consumed for lunch.)

As you may remember from yesterday’s post, I had a beer after dinner. After writing the WIAW: Holiday-ish Edition post, I realized the beer was the most holiday-ish thing listed. My work calendar says that yesterday was the first full day of Hannaukah. Shalom, Y’all!

beer

This beer is a He’Brew beer from Shmaltz Brewing, which is the creative genius behind Genesis Ale and Jewbilation. (So clever!) I went for Genesis, which is an American pale ale.

This is a very beer-ish beer. I tasted heavy caramel malts, but there’s also a punch of bitterness. It’s not too bitter, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to many beer newbies. There’s some yeast, but there’s virtually no hop flavor. If you’re a hop-head, skip this one… unless you want to buy it anyway for the marketing. As you can see, Genesis is a copper color with moderate-to-high carbonation.

Cheers… or should I say, L’Chaim!

  • Do you eat a bunch when you’re sick? I seem to be stuffing my face.
  • Ever had this beer? If so, what’d ya think?

WIAW: Holiday-ish Edition

by Tiff

I need to start of this WIAW post with a little Christmas spirit. Since I splurged on cheesecake Monday at the office holiday potluck, I don’t have much holiday cheer in this post, which highlights my Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday meals.

In order to highlight the holiday, here’s some info about me and holiday treats:

  • I eat peppermint ice cream every Christmas Eve.
  • I actually love fruitcake. Really.
  • I have never tried eggnog. The name kind of freaks me out, and I’m scared I’d like it.
  • My favorite Christmas cookie is a soft, warm sugar cookie, and it should be decorated.
  • I usually prefer slice-n’-bake cookies to homemade ones. Sorry Nana.

Okay, that was fun. Now it’s time for the real eats.

first breakfast = half banana (pre-workout); second breakfast = small green apple on a peeb-covered sandwich thin

pb & apple

first snack = half banana, 7 almonds

snack1

lunch = small sweet potato (this friggin’ thing still has about 175 calories), steamed Brussels sprouts, 4 oz of 2% all-natural cottage cheese (Daisy = best cottage cheese ever)

lunch

second snack = EAS protein shake, carrots n’ celery… and a few unplanned & un-pictured triscuits

snack2

dinner = lean ground turkey, collard greens (y’all know I’m southern, right?), white beans, onion, garlic, olive oil, and herbs

turkey dinner

third snack (who’s counting?) = beer & popcorn (the beer put me over my calories for the day… but it was worth it)

Do you eat a bunch of snacks and/or small meals, or are you into three “normal” ones?
