Fun in the Name of Charity

by Tiff

So this creeper was totally staring at me in the gym yesterday.  Sorry… had to get that off my chest.

I was thinking it’s because he was shocked at how much weight I was putting up.  Then I was thinking, maybe it’s because I’m just so darn cute in my Nike Tempo shorts (sarcasm here…. I love ‘em, but tempo shorts flatter NO ONE).  Then I realized I was doing overhead triceps extensions but haven’t shaved my armpits since Saturday.

Yup… let’s just go with D, all of the above.

Moving on…

I have a fun weekend planned, and I can’t wait to get it started.  It’s five o’clock somewhere, right?  I first have a girls’ night out on the town with two of my buddies.  This girl is even coming in from out of town for it.

I promise I hadn’t had a beer yet!

Then tomorrow, I get to have fun in the name of charity.  You may have noticed, I’ve been volunteering more with Habitat for Humanity.  This usually involves me climbing on roofs, using nail guns, or just getting all-out dirty.  Well, they finally have an event that doesn’t require back-breaking labor.  WhooHoo!  The best part?  It involves beeeeeer!

crawl

Kevin and I are working the upcoming bar crawl in Charlotte (NoDa) this Saturday.  It starts at Growler’s and ends at a local brewery, Heist Brewing.  This is a great way for participants and myself to support local beer AND local Habitat for Humanity.

crawl

I don’t normally post on the blog what I’m up to until after I do it (creeper awareness), but I hope maybe this will get some of you CLT folks to come out and have some fun in the name of charity.

Happy Friday!

Fall Fun

by Tiff

Fall finally feels upon us… or at least me.  It’s finally supposed to get chilly tonight.  Woohoo!  Though I’m happy for sweaters and boots, I’m glad this weekend stayed relatively warm.  I was busy busy busy!

fall

I spent most of the day Friday sanding and painting furniture, which was exhausting. Oh, did I mention I had an extremely hilly 3.5-mile run before even starting on the furniture?  You better believe I was happy for this crock pot meal.  And the beer.  Okay, I was especially happy for the beer.

I was just as busy Saturday at my Habitat for Humanity build. Lunch was graciously provided, but turkey/ham sandwiches don’t do much for a girl with a veg pledge. Lucky for me there were leftover whole wheat bagels from breakfast.

I definitely burned those carbs!

When I finished my build and Kevin returned from class (all-day grad school session), we headed out to meet friends for a few drinks. To my dismay, I participated in zero costume festivities. I don’t think I would have been able to keep my eyes open too long anyway.

Sunday was a bit more relaxed. I put the finishing touches on the furniture, headed to church, and baked some bread.  Thank goodness for rest days!

The bread tasted fan-friggin-tastic. I followed Katie’s recipe, but I used 1/3 cup of maple syrup instead of 1/2 cup, and I used about 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips.  (Oh gosh… those gooey, melty, chips… I may have had a little tooooo much of them yesterday.)

That’s my weekend in a blog post nutshell.

  • Did you try any new recipes over the weekend?
  • Ever been too exhausted to party?  *Side note: getting old ain’t easy.  ha

Work Hard & Play Hard

by Tiff

This weekend I worked hard and played hard.  Usually that’s how it goes, but I guess I technically did it backwards.  I played a little Thursday, and I played a bit more Friday before working hard on Saturday.  (It was my b-day weekend – I’m allowed!)

On Friday, I enjoyed a Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat at the house with a few friends.  (Gotta’ drink the wheat beer before it goes out of season.)  We all enjoyed a little happy hour before loading up & heading out to Mellow Mushroom for dinner.

pizza

The bday girl got to pick where we went to dinner.  Ummm… duh – of course I chose pizza!

hoppy

Kevin and I ordered Foothills Hoppyum with dinner.  The waiter accidentally poured an extra pint, soooo we split it.  (Twist my arm!)  Side note – I loooooove this beer.  If you like IPAs, you must try it!

This is where the “play hard” ends and “workd hard” begins.  I woke early Saturday to roof a house.  What???  Yeah – I’m not sure what I was thinking when I signed up either.

roof

This was my first Habitat for Humanity build, and I had a blast.  (I didn’t even fall off the roof!)  The other members were really cool, so we all went for fish tacos and beer after the build.  These are my kind of people!

build

It’s not just diet n’ exercise that are about balance – it’s kind of a life thing.  Work hard ~ Play Hard.  Eat Salads ~ Sometimes Get Pizza.  Sounds good to me!

  • What have you done to work hard or play hard lately?
