Friday Happy Dance

by Tiff

I’m doing the Friday Happy Dance, but only in my head.  My legs are a bit sore for too much jitterbuggin.  My booty already started to feel the burn from the morning’s workout as early as yesterday evening.  Hopefully today’s not too rough!

I know I missed a post Thursday, but it wasn’t exactly 12 of my finest hours.  Sure, I had a good workout.  I also had awesome oats.  But then this happened.

I know there’s no use crying over spilled coffee grounds, but the day just tanked from there.  This is yet one more reason I’m { mentally } doing the Friday Happy Dance today.

I’m focusing on the happy little things, even those that happened yesterday or aren’t happening until this weekend.  For instance, yesterday’s workout was pretty great.  I was reppin’ for my Clemson Tigers, and I had a leg press PR!

The food has also been pretty great.  My oats have been fan-friggin-tastic every day this week, and I’ve been enjoying a bit (okay, okay… probably way too much) of this ice cream.  Seriously, if there is a Harris Teeter grocery store near you, Go Buy This!!!

I’ve got a little retail therapy planned for this afternoon and plans with friends for the weekend, so there’s only one more thing to add… is it 5:00 yet???

Friday Five

by Tiff

It’s finally Friday!  As if you didn’t know that…  Has this week gone slowly for anyone else?  It was just dragging by for me.  Here’s a rundown of 5 things for Friday.

1. Clean Shepherd’s Pie with Leftover Turkey

I originally wanted to share #1 as a full-out recipe, but I kept getting distracted by other things.  By now you should not have any turkey leftover to make it anyway, so let me just say it was good.  Really good.

2. Vegas, Baby!

I booked my Vegas vacation this week.  I’m not going until the spring, but Orbitz had a deal.  I’ve never been before, so I’m pumped to see what all the hype is about.

3.  Speaking of Vegas – I bought a very girly and very Vegas-appropriate dress.

Too bad this thing won’t be appropriate anywhere else…

4. Speaking of girly – I’m girly again!

I had a hair appointment last night, so I got to indulge in 2 guilty pleasures, complimentary wine and girly health magazines.  Oh, and I also got my nails done this week.  They’re glitter!

5. I’m cracked out on crackers.

Kevin’s mom brought these when she came for Thanksgiving, and now I’m hooked.

Five for Friday

by Tiff

Happy Friday!  I have a Five for Friday post for ya.  I was just thinking the other day about how my food tastes have changed over the years, and it gave me this post idea.  (It’s actually 10 things, but I’m a sucker for alliteration.)

Five things I loved before I became a foodie…

  1. Sugar-Free Jello: I was a calorie-counting queen in college.  I didn’t care what it tasted like; for 10 calories, it was mine!
  2. Dominoes Pizza: Don’t get me wrong.  I’ll still put a hurtin’ on some Dominoes, but it doesn’t compare to other favorites.
  3. Subway: I used to practically live on Subway, but now it’s basically reserved for road trips only.
  4. Black Olives: I still love ‘em.  Olives and I are very close.  However, kalamata have stolen my heart.
  5. Lean Pockets: When Kevin and I were both working full time (he was actually at about 55ish hours/week), and I was doing part-time grad school, we ate the heck out of some Lean Pockets.  If that company’s shares rose in those times, the investors have me to thank for it.

Five things I did not love until I was a foodie…
  1. Green Smoothies: Especially when served in craft beer pint glasses
  2. Saison Craft Beers: Some of these babies are really growing on me!
  3. Eggplant: I’d eat it before, but now I looooooove me some eggplant.
  4. Wheat Berries: When are we going to start seeing these babies on restaurant menus???
  5. Goat Cheese: I would have loved it had I discovered it sooner!

It’s a Keeper

by Tiff

Ever have those days that you just want to hold on to a little while longer?  Yesterday was a keeper.  I had the day off, and I made the most of it.

I got up with 5 a.m. with Kevin since he still had to work.  Yesterday’s groggy video is proof of that!  Later in the morning, I hit the gym for my ARMed & dangerous workout and spin class.  After spin, I resembled a Care Bear… well, a Care Bear of sweat.

After the gym and cleaning the house, I had a great lunch (spicy spinach eggs) and went a little overboard with cucumber melon goodies.  (Sorry for those of you anti-feet kids…)

I then got my hair done and was ready to go out and about with friends.  Kevin and I met up with another couple at NoDa Brewing.  There was live music in the tap room, and I think we all had a good time.

We followed that up with pizza at Mellow Mushroom.  Pizza + Beer = Definitely a Good Day

I hope today’s a good one too.  So far, so good!

My Favorite Things

by Tiff

Here are three of my favorite things (if you read this blog with any sense of regularity), you can guess them.  It’s pizza, beer, and weekends.  Luckily, this post contains all three.

Last night’s dinner was most of an Amy’s cheeseless pizza and a Rogue Dead Guy ale.  I’ve had the ale before (recommended), but the pizza was new to me.  Wow.  Just wow.  I thought removing cheese from pizza was blasphemous, but I was wrong.  Amy’s knows vegan.

As for that third thing… it’s the weekend.  It’s not just the weekend; it’s a long weekend – albeit not long enough.  It’s also a weekend where I get out early on Friday and have lots of fun things planned.

weekend

Bring it on.

On a side note, as Kevin and I ate our separate pizza dinners, we sat on the couch.  I usually prefer family-style meals at the table, but we’ve been watching the Band of Brothers tv series on DVD.  I’m not crazy about the show since it’s mostly just WWII fighting, but it has its good points.

  1. Great mini stories from real veterans in the intro (wish they were longer)
  2. Beautiful cinematography (at least for war scenes)
  3. Good looking men (funny since this is a “man” show)

What do you have planned for the weekend?
