Friday Five

by Tiff

It’s finally Friday!  As if you didn’t know that…  Has this week gone slowly for anyone else?  It was just dragging by for me.  Here’s a rundown of 5 things for Friday.

1. Clean Shepherd’s Pie with Leftover Turkey

I originally wanted to share #1 as a full-out recipe, but I kept getting distracted by other things.  By now you should not have any turkey leftover to make it anyway, so let me just say it was good.  Really good.

2. Vegas, Baby!

I booked my Vegas vacation this week.  I’m not going until the spring, but Orbitz had a deal.  I’ve never been before, so I’m pumped to see what all the hype is about.

3.  Speaking of Vegas – I bought a very girly and very Vegas-appropriate dress.

Too bad this thing won’t be appropriate anywhere else…

4. Speaking of girly – I’m girly again!

I had a hair appointment last night, so I got to indulge in 2 guilty pleasures, complimentary wine and girly health magazines.  Oh, and I also got my nails done this week.  They’re glitter!

5. I’m cracked out on crackers.

Kevin’s mom brought these when she came for Thanksgiving, and now I’m hooked.

Little Black Dress Workout

by Tiff

I had a much better run yesterday than I did Tuesday.  Though it was pretty out yesterday morning, it was kind of creepy out too.  I was happy to have a treadmill at my disposal.  Of course, I was also happy to have my running skirt too.  (Love this thing!)

This was my first run since I mentioned my foot issues.  It was slow and steady, but that’s good for me!

Speaking of workouts… I created this Little Black Dress Workout to help you (and myself) get ready for holiday gatherings.

I know it seems a little early for little black dresses, but it’s good to be prepared.  My department holiday party is this Saturday, and Kevin’s is next weekend.  I guess I better get on it!

I did this workout Tuesday morning, and I hope you like it as much as I did.  It’s LBD approved because it focuses on stability (great for high heels), arms & shoulders (great for strapless), and back & booty (depending on how much or how little you want to show).  Wink!

I demonstrated the last move in the video clip.  If you don’t have a medicine ball, you can do overhead triceps extensions with calf raises.  That will be extra-good for those high heels.  If you do have a medicine ball, it’s 3 extensions and 1 slam, repeated 4 times.

  • Got any holiday plans on your calendar yet?

Shopping Win

by Tiff

I did a little more than party rock this weekend.  I also went shopping.  For hours.  And hours.  Okay… I didn’t hit the stores tooooo terribly long, but it felt like a long time since I’m not a big shopper.

Check out this loot though…

fashion

All of that awesomeness cost me about $135.  I showed those stores who’s boss.  The dress and three tops are from Kohl’s, and the Aerosoles shoes are from Marshall’s (so comfy).  The purple top came from New York & Co., and there’s also a swim cap hidden there somewhere.  (My swim cap was not to included in my grand total.)

I feel purdy!!!  I got to wear my new dress to a belated Cinco de Mayo party Saturday night.  Benefits to a belated party?  The hosts got all the cool decor for free.  It looks like everyone found some deals this weekend!

interesting

I know that yesterday’s post wasn’t health related, and today’s isn’t so healthy either.  The truth is, I tried not to focus too much on food and fitness this weekend.  It’s still a little upsetting to think about all the workouts I can’t do.

With that said, I have started an easy workout program this week, which I will share with you once I decide if I like it or not.  I also have an appt with a different sports doc tomorrow morning.  Lastly, I’m changing up the diet a little, and I’ll share more info on that in tomorrow’s WIAW post.

Wedding Weekend

by Tiff

This weekend really flew by!  Kevin and I went out of town for a wedding, and we had a blast.  I don’t see how a day can be so long yet go by so quickly.  We got up at 5-something in the morning, and we didn’t get to bed until 3 a.m.  It’s a good thing bars close at 2, otherwise I’m not sure what time we would have gotten to bed.

My Twitter followers know I had a hard time deciding what to wear.  I went with an old standby + a black jacket for the ceremony.

I was able to find vegetarian eats at the reception.  Vegan would have been really difficult.  Thank goodness I’m still into dairy!

I had a few beers (I know… shocker), and since we were in Greenville, SC, I went with a Greenville brew – Thomas Creek.  I’m not a huge Thomas Creek fan, but I was happy the reception had a craft beer option.

Dancing and drinks leads to a few things, such as silly pictures, cheesy pickup lines, and a late-night pizza stop.  (Seriously, this was a new one for me, “Are you German?”  Ummm… is that a compliment???)

No, it was not the healthiest of weekends, but it was great to see so many of my old college buddies.  I <3 Weddings!

Self-Reflection Sunday

by Tiff

Happy Sunday Bloggies!  I usually rest Sundays, so there’s no workout to report today.  If I feel up to it, I’ll go for a walk with Kevin later.  The only foods I have to mention are the two bowls of cereal I had this morning.  Cereal is dangerous for me!  It was yummy – just some Post Shredded Wheat.  Mmmmm!

Yesterday was more eventful.  I chopped my hair off, which I am still getting used to, and I got my nails done.  By the way, does anyone else think of that “My New Haircut” video every time they get a haircut?  No- just me?  ”Jagerbombs!”  Okay, seriously, do NOT go look that up on YouTube.  It’s highly inappropriate and only moderately comical, but my guy friends made a big deal about it when it was new.

My new haircut

Then I went ShOpPiNg!  Woopwoop!  I got a semi-cute but very professional Calvin Klein dress, which looks stunning when you wear it but drab on the hanger, and I purchased that purple sweater in the pic.  I also picked up this random stuff for my dining room table.  Kev actually approved!

While shopping, a little boy looked at me and told his mom, “There’s Barbie.”  His adorable imagination really made my day.  I was pumped after hearing him say that, but then I began to realize how silly I was acting.  Why does an empty comment from a total stranger make such a difference?   I’m not saying we shouldn’t be happy to get compliments, but we should be happy with what we’ve got all the time… errr…. or at least more often.  I realize this is a LOT easier said than done, soooo I have homework for all of us.

Write a thank-you letter to yourself showing your gratitude for how awesome you are.  I’ll post a mini one here, and you guys leave at least one thing in the comments you’re glad to have.

Seriously! Write one; it feels goooood

Also, I went out to eat with two of my girlie buddies at a new restaurant near the house.  We all got salads, and it was terrible.  Don’t get me wrong!  The company was good, but my salad was pitiful.  I could make a better one any day of the week with anything in my fridge at any given time.  Oh well – that’s not why I was there; I was happy to catch up with the girls.  I hope you all had a good weekend too!
