Friday Happy Dance

by Tiff

I’m doing the Friday Happy Dance, but only in my head.  My legs are a bit sore for too much jitterbuggin.  My booty already started to feel the burn from the morning’s workout as early as yesterday evening.  Hopefully today’s not too rough!

I know I missed a post Thursday, but it wasn’t exactly 12 of my finest hours.  Sure, I had a good workout.  I also had awesome oats.  But then this happened.

I know there’s no use crying over spilled coffee grounds, but the day just tanked from there.  This is yet one more reason I’m { mentally } doing the Friday Happy Dance today.

I’m focusing on the happy little things, even those that happened yesterday or aren’t happening until this weekend.  For instance, yesterday’s workout was pretty great.  I was reppin’ for my Clemson Tigers, and I had a leg press PR!

The food has also been pretty great.  My oats have been fan-friggin-tastic every day this week, and I’ve been enjoying a bit (okay, okay… probably way too much) of this ice cream.  Seriously, if there is a Harris Teeter grocery store near you, Go Buy This!!!

I’ve got a little retail therapy planned for this afternoon and plans with friends for the weekend, so there’s only one more thing to add… is it 5:00 yet???

Get Excited

by Tiff

There are lots of exciting things going on right now.  Here are a few that are getting me all fired up!

1. Fall : I’m not in full-blown fall mode yet, but these things are starting to get me ready for the colors, the crisp air, the football, and the fall produce.

BTW – The magazine has a recipe for bacon mac n’ cheese.  I think Kevin’s going to appreciate this issue!  (Anyone else take unwanted magazines from work?  That’s where I get all mine.  I have more recipes than I can fit in my cabinets.)

2. Long Weekend : How could I not be fired up for the long weekend???  I have plans to party, plans to work out, and plans to watch football, yet I have NO plans to work for four whole days.  Yessss!

3. This Girl : Speaking of party – my college buddy is coming to visit tonight.  She was this girl at my 21st birthday, and this girl at my wedding.  We always have a good time together, so I’m sure this time won’t be any different.  Since she isn’t in a huge hurry to leave tomorrow morning, I may even drag her to the local farmer’s market with me.  Yay Yay Yay!

Sunday Store List

by Tiff

Yaaawwwwwn. Anyone else enjoying a lazy Sunday? It’s nearly 9:30 a.m., and I’m still in my pajamas. Okay, I do have some laundry going, but aside from that, it’s pretty lazy here.

Now I’m sitting down at my computer to make my grocery list. I’m a stickler for the list. If I go into a grocery store without a list, I walk looking (and feeling) lost and confused. I need a game plan.

There’s a process to a good list. Here’s mine for today:

  • Get out any coupons (I rarely have any) & pull up the local grocery store’s online weekly flyer for inspiration by what’s on sale and what’s in season
  • Pull up the LiveFit meal plan to get a basic idea of what I’m going to need
  • Visit a few of my favorite recipe sites for meals that fit my on-sale/in-season/LiveFit needs.

Since I’m about to pull up my favorite recipe sites anyway, let me go ahead and share them with you.

  • Oh She Glows (duh… I mention this one frequently)
  • Better Homes & Gardens (they’re not all wins, but they’re traditional and usually comforting)
  • Whole Foods (some wins, some loses, but the wins are big wins)
  • Eat Better America (you have to look harder for all-natural recipes, but these have easy-to-find ingredients)
  • YumSugar (not always healthy, but it often appeals to my foodie side)

Of course, you can always find more recipes than you need on Pinterest.

How To…

by Tiff

How to…

1. … creep out women in the gym.

Tell a woman her form is like art because it’s so perfect. Ugh. He told me this while leaving only 2 feet of distance between us. Talk about “too close for comfort!” ***Bonus points if you’re the same age or older than the woman’s father

2. … blow you hard earned cash.

Try to be responsible by ordering a small soy cappuccino instead of a small skinny cappuccino, which costs $2. 69. Do not consider a possible price difference. Fork over $3.69 for the same size beverage. It was ‘soy’ expensive.

3. … poorly manage carb cravings when training for an endurance event.

Don’t step on the scale for weeks. When your pants fit differently, tell yourself it’s muscle.

4. … make yourself feel better about major fashion crimes.

Make your hair really big, and wear eye-catching jewelry. These distract from the cross trainers that you wore to work. (Yes, I changed after being at work a few hours, but I did get some significant wear out of these before my boss arrived.)

5. … whine about things that aren’t your fault but are still totally your fault.

Sign up for a race in February, and complain about the cold now that Old Man Winter has decided to show his ugly face. Seriously, what was I thinking???

Good Coffee, A Simple Pleasure

by Tiff

There are many things I love about weekends. One of the small pleasures is my homebrewed coffee. Sometimes I opt for regular joe, and sometimes I go for espresso. No matter the choice, it’s still a nice change from the tea I usually drink at work. (Office coffee = Bitter mud)

This simple pleasure just got 10x better. I went out and purchased one of these babies, a milk frother.

Buy one HERE from Amazon

My espresso machine is supposed to have a built-in steamer, but neither Kevin nor I have been able to get it to work. Luckily the espresso part is still alive and kicking.

Yeah… it’s that good.

Even if you lack espresso, you can make a “misto” or “café au lait” with steamed (or in this case, frothed) milk and regular coffee. I guess you could make a lot of things, but I’m a regular cappuccino/latte kind of girl.
