Sickly Romantic

by Tiff

Remember those hockey and football plans I mentioned for the weekend?  Yeah – those went by the wayside when Kevin woke up sick and asked me to bring him Nyqil/Dayqil on my way home from the gym.  Dangit!

We changed our plans by going out for Italian food (his request) and staying in to watch a movie.  (It only sounds romantic, but it’s actually just sickly).  I am determined to not catch his ickie germs, so I fueled up on some amazingly good food.  (Baked ziti used to be my go-to Italian fare, and I think it’s making a comeback.)

Then we watched a movie at home in order to hit the hay early.  I swapped my usual Friday beer for a chocolate mug cake since alcohol and sick germs don’t mix well.  (Unless you count the alcohol in Nyqil.  I took half a serving before bed and that knocked my butt out!)

After 10 hours of sleep, I don’t want to push my luck by going for a run in the cold, so I’m sitting here drinking my coffee and taking my multivitamin.  I think I’m in the clear, which is good since I’ve made new football-watching plans.  I hope to catch it with this girl and this girl.  Oh gosh – I’m meeting fashion bloggers out in public.  WTF do I wear?!?!

Anyway – enjoy the Miller 64 commercial.  They say “love, sweat, & beers,” and it’s funny.  Naturally I fell in love.  Thanks Karen for mentioning it initially, and thanks Chelsea for reminding me of it!

What are your weekend plans?  None of them were foiled, were they???

Empty House to Guest House

by Tiff

Kevin’s out of town, so I was living the single gal life last night.  After work, I hit the gym and even ran by by Trader Joe’s before dinner.  Yeah – single gals don’t have to rush home and fix dinner if they don’t want to.

That’s my TJ’s haul.  It has some of my new favorites.  That curry sauce is a must-try, and the high-protein tofu is the best tofu ever!  The frozen goodies say “turkey meatballs” on the bag, but they’re actually all-natural, pre-cooked amazeballs.  The best thing?  The price – the total bill came to $20.

Once home, I cooked up some plain turkey for a salad.  Single gals can have salads for dinner.  They can even use light dressing and add mushrooms.  I know – it’s crazy all up in here.

I even had control of the remote control.

But then reality set in.  I realized cats don’t make for good conversation.  I don’t like anything on tv.  And salad doesn’t quite cut it for dinner.  { Insert Chocolate Here }

Miss you Kevie!!!  Luckily, guests are coming this weekend to keep me company.  Though Michele won’t arrive until tomorrow, my mommy’s coming to visit today.  Woohoo!

Motivation Nosedive

by Tiff

My motivation has seriously taken a nosedive this week.  Anyone else?  I’ve been keeping up my workouts, well – except this morning.  I just didn’t feel like running in the dark today, so a run and a little runner yoga have been pushed back until after work.

Really though, that doesn’t mean I’ve wanted to work out.  Or clean up my house.  Or go to work.  (Okay, I never want to do those last two, but you get the idea.)  The week is just going by so slowly for me.

Are you in the same boat?  I hope not!

So what’s a girl to do?

 dumbbell  pump

Go to body pump.  That cheered me up yesterday.

Only do 6minutes of yoga instead of the planned 20.  (Stressing about fitting in yoga for relaxaion is just silly.)

Eat a Vitatop.  I went over my calorie “limit,” and I use that term very loosely, by 100 calories yesterday.  Sometimes a girl just needs chocolate.  (These are overpriced.  They’re convenient and tasty, but every time I eat one, I tell myself to never buy them again.  Call me Brittany because whoops, I did it again.)

On a side note…

I’ve been researching plant-based diets (vegan).  I’m not becoming a vegan, but I’m flirting with the idea of going vegan with benefits for just a wee bit.  It’s in response to this trash I’ve seen in the news this past week.

I was just about to start a high-protein diet too, so who knows where I’m going with this.  High-protein yet low-tummy ache vegan diet tips would be appreciated!  (Lentils, tempeh, and I don’t get along.)

Un-Vegan, Full-Fat, Full-Sugar Goodness

by Tiff

Regular readers know, I like to healthify things.  I like to healthify things a lot.  It’s a good habit/hobby to have.  However, not everything needs to be healthified.

oreo

Nutella is one of them.  Oh… and Oreos.  And cheesecake.  Better yet – Nutella cheesecake with Oreo crust

Kevin’s birthday is Thursday, but since I had Friday off from work, I decided to make him a birthday non-cake.  He doesn’t really like sweets, but he occasionally enjoys a good cheesecake.  He also approves of Nutella ever since I made him try it in Italy.  When I saw this recipe, it was really a no-brainer.

So why the full-fat, white sugar, and everything else?  Magic.  Sometimes you’ve just got to let go, quit worrying, and let the chocolate do it’s magic.  Y’all knew chocolate was magical, right?

food 012

Kevin is always supportive of my recipe flops, tofu dinners, and whatever else I put on the table. He deserved his own special birthday cake… minus the cake.

food 023

Here’s my history with Oreos.  The last time I bought a pack, I ate an entire sleeve (1/3 of pack) in the car on my way home from the grocery store.  That happened in high school, but I have been terrified of buying Oreos ever since.

I was also worried I’d over-eat these bars.  But you know what?  I didn’t.  Instead of gorging myself on 5 in a sitting, I enjoyed 1 a day without feeling deprived or guilty.  I made something rich – something good (really good), and I allowed myself to enjoy it.  This was a great feeling.

food 015

I even allowed myself a special Oreo before putting away the package.  Soooooo worth every calorie!
