15 Weeks: Bam, a Bump!

by Tiff

BAM!  Just like that, we have a bump!  It seemed as soon as I said I didn’t have one last week, it just popped out of nowhere.  Then again, with a baby the size of an apple, I suppose I should suspect a little something, eh?

bump

Here’s a little survey-style info that might be a bit more reader-friendly than reading paragraph after paragraph of my ramblings, which I guarantee aren’t helped by my sentimental hormones and my scattered pregnancy brain.

How far along? 15 weeks

Baby’s size? Apple (about 4 inches)

Total weight gain/loss: On Friday I was 4 lbs, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I tacked on another over the weekend.

Maternity clothes? My skinny jeans have finally gotten uncomfortable, but I don’t need maternity stuff just yet.  I ordered a few maternity items just in case I have another growth spurt like this one though!

Sleep: One word – dreadful

Best moment this week: Seeing my mom and dad this weekend

Miss Anything? I really haven’t missed beer/wine nearly as much as I thought I would.  In fact, I usually don’t miss it at all.  The fam and I went to a wine tasting though on Saturday afternoon, and that wasn’t quite as fun with my decaf cappuccino.  However, I’ve gotten used to it already.  I guess to answer the question, I miss sleep the most.

Food cravings: I want ice cream every night.  I tried to fight it, but I feel much more satisfied (and I don’t overeat it or other things) when I just let myself give into the urge.  In short, there are two containers in my fridge right now.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing makes me sick, but my sense of smell is freakishly strong, which is often not so pleasant.

Symptoms: A good bit of my energy has returned; slightly moody; minor cramping (aka: round ligament pain – completely normal); acne (more on this later… possibly another post)

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy but occasionally a little mean (sorry everyone!)

Looking forward to: Having a “real” bump that doesn’t just look like a little pot belly

I don’t know if this counts as my first Mothers’ Day weekend as a mom, but my family members were kind enough to send me cards anyway.  Such sweeties!

I took my parents to a Tonic concert on Friday night, and we attended a wine tasting on Saturday.  On Sunday, we all went to brunch, which was fantastic.  Sadly, I also had to drop the fam off at the airport, but I have excellent news – they may have found a home they like here in NC.  Yaaaaaay for babysitters close relatives!!!

Comfort Weekend

by Tiff

How was your weekend?  Did you see family, eat candy, die eggs?  I didn’t really do too much, but that’s just what I needed.  It was a true comfort weekend, mainly in terms of rest, food, and kitty snuggles.

Thursday ended with bbq dinner with this girl.  Yes, pulled bbq pork is definitely comfort food for me!  I guess it’s a good thing I’ve had a green smoothie most every day this week!

Speaking of Friday, the boss let me leave early.  What did I do with my time?  A two-hour nap, of course!  I really really really needed some rest this weekend, and that’s just what I got!

Rather than make our usual trek to see family, Kevin and I enjoyed our first holiday to ourselves.  Though it isn’t something I’d like to do all the time, it was pretty great.  There was no schedule, and I cooked exactly what I wanted.  (His & Hers salads for lunch and whole wheat banana bread with chocolate chips)

Saturday dinner was simple but good.  It was only made better with extra kitty snuggles.

This recipe I made for Sunday brunch is pretty much my favorite meal these days.  I made it on Christmas, and I couldn’t wait to make it again with the leftover ham.  Speaking of leftover ham, I made another one of my fav comfort dishes that night.  Winning!

Call me crazy, but with all this comforting R&R, I actually feel ready for today.  Have a great week!

Hubby of the Year

by Tiff

Yesterday, I mentioned I had a hair appointment Thursday night after work.  Well, I actually had a bit more than just a hair appointment.  When I called Kevin to let him know I was on the way home, he said he planned a surprise dinner for me.*

*This is the same man who in college cooked pasta and put a glob of peanut butter on it to make “peanut sauce.”  Yes, it’s the same man who through a slice of Kraft American cheese on a frozen pizza to make it cheesier.  Uh-huh… you’re with me on this.

As soon as I walked in the door, Kevin asked, “How many calories have you had today?”  I asked if I should probably just stop counting, and he nodded.  I have to admit, the house smelled gooooooood.

Yup – he made this!  It was delicious, but more importantly, it was meaningful.  I had forgotten that I emailed him this recipe months ago with a message saying, “If you ever cook for me, make this!”  He actually did.

Thanks Sweetie!  (Though it’s your fault if I don’t fit in my little black dress this weekend.)

dinner

Luckily for me, this awesome dinner was followed with an awesome run the next morning.  I completed 3 miles of speed intervals before banging out a heavy leg day.  Take that squats!  *Avoiding the scale – focusing on the results instead.  ;)

The weekend is off to a good start.  I hope yours is too!

campeón del burrito

by Tiff

This weekend, I was the campeón del burrito. It takes a lot to be the burrito champ, but I earned the title this weekend. I enjoyed a day off from work Friday, but I spent it working on the house. Kevin and I took a much needed break from housework on Saturday. We spent the afternoon at the lake, and then partied it up the rest of the night.

I joined about 15 other people to celebrate a friend’s birthday at a pretty awesome Mexican restaurant. Even though it was a big group, everyone really enjoyed their food and received decent service. I ordered the steak burrito. Mmmm… beef.

burrito

It was huge! I didn’t eat my beans and rice as a side, and I pulled most of my rice out of my burrito. I was still totally stuffed! Oh, and if you were wondering, that’s a Dos Equis Amber on the side. Perfect pairing – as usual.

leftover

I took my remnants to-go, which turned out to be an excellent decision. I’ll spare you party details, but trust me, come 3:30 a.m., I was really happy to have those leftovers! I shared, so Kevin was happy to have them too (best wife ever).

The next morning, about 10 of us all met up for brunch. Wow. Worst brunch ever. The food was cold. The menus were misleading, and service was terrible. Even the hashbrowns were pitiful.

brunch

I ordered an egg, onion, pepper, and black bean burrito, or so the menu said. There was actually turkey sausage in it too, which upset one of the vegetarians in our party. I ate it anyway even though I’m not a fan of breakfast sausage.

burrito

I made up for the cruddy brunch when I made my dinner. It was soooooo good! As you can see, it was a spinach wrap filled with homemade yummus (aka: hummus), a few kalamata olives, and grilled veggies.

wrap

The grilled veggies included a portabello mushroom cap, eggplant slice, and some zucchini. I then pressed it all together. Delish! Of course, I also enjoyed a post-dinner treat (2 servings of Vanilla Almond Special K and unsweetened almond milk).

Now it’s time to face the week. Wish me luck!

What was the best thing you did this weekend?
