The Usual Suspects

Yesterday felt like Thursday to me.  It was a bummer to realize today isn’t Friday.  Hate it when that happens.  Anywhooo, I’ve got the usual suspects to discuss today: food, fitness, and fun.  (nope… no beer, womp womp)

Food:

English muffin sandwiches and I have been pretty close this week.  I mentioned the chicken salad sandwich I had for lunch on Monday and Tuesday, but yesterday I went for salmon instead.  I’m not a huge salmon fan, but it wasn’t bad.  I totally recommend Trader Joe’s canned skinless, boneless, wild salmon, which I think also had no added salt, if I remember correctly.

Know what I also recommend?  PBJs!!!  Since Kevin was out taking a final exam, I had a pb&j with watermelon for dinner last night (followed by a hearty helping of ice cream), and I was seriously looking forward to it all.day.long.

Fitness:

Fitness and I haven’t been friends this week.  I worked out Monday and Tuesday, but it just felt so much harder than normal.  It isn’t that my heart rate is getting too high; I just felt like my body, especially my legs, just aren’t recovering.

tuesday

So yesterday was an unplanned rest day.  I did some yoga in the morning, some cleaning in the afternoon, and tried to just rest up.  I’m hitting the gym today though, so wish me luck!

Fun:

I’m heading out with some friends tonight, and I’m crossing my fingers for good weather since we’ll be outdoors.  Tomorrow I’m having two other couples over for dinner.  Though I’m looking forward to it and love hosting, I always get a little nervous.  I think I do okay with cooking, especially for just Kevin and I, but I certainly don’t have much confidence with it.  Oh well… practice makes perfect doesn’t burn things.

  1. Knowing I have an ABJ in my lunchbox is pretty much the only thing that can get me to look forward to lunch. That’s seriously my least favorite meal of the day, so having something extra delicious makes it a lot more enjoyable. And I know what you mean about getting nervous when you’re cooking for others – same with me. I’ve never had to host a bigger group of people, but I’d be super nervous if I did. You’ll be fine though! Things always turn out well :)

  2. I’m hosting a dinner for some friends tonight and I always get a little nervous too. For some reason, I always want to try out new recipes, which I know isn’t the smartest thing ever. Good luck with your dinner!

  3. Isn’t it funny how we can look forward to the simplest meals all day long? I also find this to be true when I have plans to eat a PB & J or a grilled cheese. Yum! :)

  5. Can’t go wrong with a classic pb and j! In fact I think I’ll make one for a snack at some point today! Just bought some delicious mixed berry jam!

    I can’t imagine working out while pregnant! You’re doing amazing even if you do need an extra rest day here and there.

    I will always love peanut butter and jam sandwiches though now I actually like almond butter more… craziness I know!
    Love running right now – as long as it is not too hot out. Just being out in the nicer weather is so awesome since last summer I barely was able to run.

  8. I thought yesterday was thursday too! i made that mistake on my calendar actually prepared something at work for a thursday meeting, instead of the one that actually happened yesterday. ohh well, at least NOW its actually thursday which means friday isnt too far off :)

  12. I woke up this morning thinking it was Friday and then it wasn’t and I was sad.

    I’m obsessed with chocolate pb banana smoothies in the morning. I feel like i get a milkshake every morning!

    I totally look forward to my simplest meals. They are just the best – and scream comfort to me.
    Good luck at the gym today – sometimes I get into those grooves where nothing really wants to work so I just take a few days off and hope it’s temporary.
    Right now I’ve been loving smoothies big time.

  15. Oh my, am I sore from yesterday’s leg workout. Today has definitely been a “lay low” type of day as a result. As far as food, I cannot get enough cherries. They are everywhere, and I seem to always find a good reason to bring another bag home . . . and eat an obnoxious number of them myself. :)

I love cooking for others and hosting little soirees, except most of my friends aren’t into the dinner party scene so it’s more like cookouts, but I’d love to try a fancy sit down dinner party one day. Of course, I’d be panicked and nervous as hell, but I’d still love to try. I hope your evening with friends went well. I’m sure the food was great.
