I may have mentioned my desire to run another half marathon. I may have also mentioned my desire to run one in early March. Now… I think not.
While I’m generally a believer in the idea, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” I must admit that I’m also a firm believer in, “Stupid is as stupid does.”

I’ve been running three days per week for a month or two now in order to get ready for “official” training, which was supposed to start last week. Given my minor but significant foot pain over the weekend, I couldn’t complete my first long run. As you can imagine, that’s a problem.

I’m a fighter. I have no doubt that I could work on my foot exercises, keep on training, and push through the pain. However, after dealing with physical therapy back in August, I can say it would be stupid to start a plan now, no matter how badly I want it.

I’m not happy about it, (#prideissues) but I think it will make me stronger to not complete another half this spring. Mentally stronger, that is. God only gave me one body, so I better take care of it, right?

It’s not like I’m totally throwing in the towel. I had a bangin’ full-body workout yesterday and sweat fest on the step mill. Plus, there’s always next year!

Ive pulled out of two big races because my bod shouted at me yet again:
DUDE YOU ARE NOT A RACER RUNNER.
I get you,
xo

It can be so frustrating, but you sound so positive! Like you say, there’ll always be another chance and it makes more sense to take care of your body.
A couple years ago, I downgraded a marathon to a half and then couldn’t do that either. It was hard, but it was the right decision for sure.

I’m sorry you have to pass up the half.
That’s such a bummer! But you’re being super smart, and that’s what is most important in the long run. When I was dealing with coming back from injury a few years ago, I often had to stop myself. The endurance was there, but the leg needed to be monitored. So annoying!

Eeee! YAAAY! Thanks lovey. I totally relate to the running frustration – my body is just not built for distance running. The more I pushed, the more it resisted, despite doing ‘everything right’ when it came to a training plan. Sorry about your foot pain..
Being injured is sooo frustrating, but at least you can still lift
January 8, 2013 at 9:37 am
It is definitely frustrating, but there are also tons of half marathons going on all the time, you could always train for a different one instead!!

Ugh. I swear there is nothing more frustrating than feeling like things are going good and then getting sidelined! Rest up that foot and hopefully you’ll be back out there soon.

Well I think you’re stars for being honest about your training! The races aren’t going anywhere and I have not a bit of doubt you’ll get there – sooner than you think.
I’d rather you do something 100% than 50.
I’m pulling for you and hope you get well soon. I had foot surgery almost 10 years ago and it still nags, take care of yourself first.
All the best!!

I thought I was going to have to drop out of running my half because I had an injury….it all worked out in the end but I was scared I wouldn’t be able to do it!
What’s important is that you are listening to your body!
Keep your head up

So many times! I’ve talked myself out of many races where my body wasn’t ready to take it on – racing should never come at the expense of your health. Smart girl to see that you’re not quite ready yet. Use this time to get healthy, build a base, and you can always do a half another time!

I know better than anyone how you feel! With everything ive gone through since may…its been crazy. It will be months before i run again…listen to your body, create new goals, focus on a new challenge. Maybe a tri instead?!? You are awesome Tiff….and smart!

Awwr sorry to hear that you’re not able to compete in the race, Tiff, but I definitely think you’re making the right choice. There will be plenty of races to compete in in the future, but yup… we only get one body so we have to attend to that before anything else.

I’m planning on doing the Chicago Marathon this year! Can’t wait.

Have fun!

You know it stinks when plans have to change, but maybe there’s something better waiting around the corner for you! Plus, in the grand scheme of things, bypassing a potential injury is so much better than muscling through it. Good for you to pay attention to how you’re feeling and not let pride stand in the way!
