No work but still no play

Happy Friday!  Today’s post is a little later than normal because I don’t have to work today.  Yay!  I have NO idea how I had a couple extra vacation days this year, but now seemed like as good a time as any to take one of them.

After all, it is the day after Clemson’s Thursday night game… wink wink.  Okay, that actually had nothing to do with it even though Kevin and I did meet up with some friends to watch the game.

We had dinner at home first.  *Side note: I had never tried this combo before, but it’s heaven for a carb queen like myself, baked beans over a baked sweet potato.

I had two beers at the bar, both of which were Bell’s Two Hearted – a fantastic IPA.  Though I managed to not order fries while I was out, I failed to resist temptation at home.  Sorry I polished off all your chips, Kev.  Whoops!

So here I am now with my breakfast and green tea gearing up for a run.  Yesterday was supposed to be my run day, but I swapped it with today’s arm workout since my legs were too sore.  They’re actually still pretty sore, but that’s what you get with a new squat PR!  That felt pretty good!  (at the time)

So even though I don’t have work today, I still have a workout and one last dresser to sand and paint.  I have another Habitat for Humanity build tomorrow, so I better not push myself too hard today!

  • Have you ever had leftover vacation days?
  • What are you up to this weekend?

  1. Thats nice when you get those extra days off! My company has “unlimited vacation days” which is good and bad- for me it’s good because I tend to take advantage of this as much as I can. Some of my co-workers don’t because it “stresses” them out that we don’t have a specific number of days off. I think the are nuts! haha

That baked sweet potato combo looks delish though! 🙂

  2. Finding out you have extra vacation days is like finding a 20 in the pocket of your coat. Feels so damn good! And congrats about the squat PR. I was always afraid to push myself too hard when it came to squats because I have bad knees so I was kind of paranoid that I’d ruin them.

  3. We are carving pumpkins this weekend!!!

  4. This weekend? Halloween weekend craziness! I have two parties/outtings that we’re going to. Expect me to be exhausted and grumpy by Sunday…

  5. I have 5 days of vacation left, but I think I’m waiting until December to use them. We’re slower at work in December.

My friend is throwing a Halloween party on Saturday, so it should be a fun weekend.

    Enjoy your day off!

  6. I’m not sure what leftover vacation days are! I need to make those count! 😉 Running a doggie 5k this weekend, but am nervous because I skipped my second run this week. Bad girl!

  7. We have a teacher work day today, so no kids, but still have to come in. I feel like I never get as much done on these days, though, because I don’t have the structure of “must get this and this and this done within this time frame” to go buy.

Case in point: I am not reading your blog. 🙂

  8. Oh yum!!! I’m also a carb queen so I love the bean + potato idea! I’m going to have to try that!

  9. I love Bell’s! I’m counting down the days until, I get beer again…

This weekend I’m hitting the gym hard and going to pick up my suit!!!

  10. I actually have a vacation day that I still need to use sometime before the end of the year- I’m hoarding it…I want to use it for something good! Although, let’s be honest, I’ll probably just wind up reading or watching TV the whole day when I finally do cash it in. 😉 Hope you have a great day off and a fun weekend!

  11. Ooh – furniture re-do on your day off? I have one I’ve been planning for a while – I need some time to do ti!

OHH MY gosh I am making that sweet potato bean combo. THAT looks amazing!

  13. Sweet potatoes with black beans is one of my favorite food combos ever…..I’ve never tried it with baked beans. I’ll have to give it a whirl! 🙂

  14. Yes! I love sweet potatoes and baked beans together!

This weekend I’m baking cookies, gong to a Halloween party, having a cooking night with some friends, and doing some paper writing and studying. 😛

Beans and potatoes, sounds like a simple staple:)

Really enjoy hearing about your Habitat for Humanity builds – great stuff.

  16. I’m sure your extra vacation days were a nice little surprise! I hope you’ve enjoyed your three day weekend! 🙂
