Happy WIAW (What I Ate Wednesday) Y’all! Before I share all my eats from yesterday, I gotta’ share how the day started.

I was sleeping peacefully in bed when I felt a lil’ sumpin sumpin on my leg. No big deal; I let it go. I felt it again, and it felt like a big sumpin! My hand shot under the covers and found my cat. Apparently the hubs thought it would be a good idea to let her under the covers at 4 a.m. Guess who didn’t get back to sleep…
When the alarm finally goes off an hour later, I headed out for a short run. (Yes, it’s still totally dark at 5 a.m., just incase you bedheads forgot.) I noticed a person coming out of the trees behind the shadows. I jumped and yelped, and then the person jumped and yelped too. Of course, then that person’s dog yelped again for all of us. It was just some lady in her pajamas walking her dog, but she was coming out from the woods! WTF???
Anyway, it’s time for the spook-free eats.
Breakfast – Green(ish) Smoothie (whey protein, unsweetened almond milk, banana, berries, & spinach)
Snack – Apple (delicious and not pictured)
Lunch – Kale and whole wheat penne in 1/5 cup red marinara (so cheap, so fast, so easy)

Snack – Zucchini with garlic hummus and parm cheese (which I swiped from the break room, score!) and two Wasa Rye crackers once I got home from work
Dinner – Lentil dal with brown batsami rice (Apparently the hubs dislikes lentils; I didn’t think they were unlikable.)
Dessert – 1/2 cup Arctic Zone chocolate
Anyone tried Arctic Zone ice cream? I’m not big fan. It’s overpriced and tastes nothing like ice cream. In AZ’s defense, a half cup of this stuff has only 37 calories. In comparison, half a cup of Ben & Jerry’s chocolate has 250 calories, and the same portion of Edy’s Slow Churned chocolate has 100 calories. AZ also claims to be all-natural, but I wouldn’t exactly call it “real food.”
- Got any guilt-less pleasures to satisfy your sweet tooth? I need to find a new one!

Yum the lentil dal with brown rice sounds so good. Lately I am loving lentils. Good source of protein, but also find it hard to convince the boyfriend that they really are delicious!

Seriously? In the woods in her PJ’s? Heck, if I had a dog, he better do his b’ness within 10 feet from the porch steps! Lol At least you know you’re heart’s working…good cardio surge for ya!
No lentil love from the hubs, huh? I like ‘em, but um…they don’t really like me if you know what I mean. Maybe I need to buy some Beano! Lol
I actually REALLY like Arctic Zero…but I’ve never tried the chocolate flavor. The vanilla and coffee are my favorites. It helps if you don’t think of it like ice cream though…more like a frozen protein shake! And lately, I’ve been ALL about protein puddings and microwave cakes for knocking out my sweet cravings! These two are both FAB! http://adashofmeg.com/2012/08/11/listening-to-my-body/ and http://www.sprint2thetable.com/2012/08/150-calorie-chocolate-cake/

Heck yeah – I am always on the hunt for more microwave treats.

HAve you tried the Ben and JErry’s frozen Greek yogurt? There is also a TCBY Frozen Greek yogurt AND a Healthy Choice one. Neither of these are really low in calories like the Arctic Zone, but they are tasty, higher in protein, and certainly lighter than ice cream. I also love sugar free fudge pops for a light sweet snack.

The B&J Greek is in my to-try list!

37 calories? What exactly is in that?? Sweetened air?

Ok that’s really weird – why on earth was she in the woods in the dark even walking a dog? Love the kale dish. Yum. I like to mix PB2 with vanilla stevia and put on a plain rice cake or apple slices.

My cat has been waking me up in the middle of the night recently, it’s driving me crazy! Fortunately I fall back asleep quickly, otherwise she’d probably have to start sleeping outside
August 15, 2012 at 9:01 am
omg you need to be careful!!!! ahh I always get scared when I run.. even if its in the middle of the day!
August 15, 2012 at 9:08 am
I would have been freaked out seeing someone walk out of the woods that early! I’m a chicken and refuse to run outside in the dark!
August 15, 2012 at 9:12 am
Ick! I would have been terrified both times!

I read this one on a blog the other night. Did it last night and both my daughter and I loved it. I froze two bananas, put them in a blender with a splash of milk. Pretty good “fake” icecream. I topped mine with a bit of sunflower butter and a few blueberries. She went raspberry crazy.

My husband is not a lentil fan either. I very seldom make them because of that.

I’ve tried the AZ…I thought it was an odd texture and the flavor was off. I’d rather half 1/2 cup of the good stuff then 2 cups of the nasty
August 15, 2012 at 11:48 am
Oh man, that lady would have freaked me out! haha.
August 15, 2012 at 12:03 pm
I’m really, really disliking how dark it is at 5 a.m. The depressing thing is that’s only going to get worse. Boo!
August 15, 2012 at 12:06 pm
Your lunch looks great! I would have had a heart attack in the woods haha
August 15, 2012 at 1:13 pm
Um I need that little lunch you made. Easy, cheap & includes kale = you are speaking my language!
My sweet tooth craving – I either add cinnamon to my coffee or eat a mini hersheys.
August 15, 2012 at 2:25 pm
That’s terrifying. Why would someone come out of the woods with her dog? Unless she went out of her way NOT to pick up after it.
I’ve never tried Arctic Zone, but I’d be willing to try! I’ve never seen it here. I’ll keep my eyes open. I admit though, I prefer Ben and Jerry’s. It’s spectacular any day of the week!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like that Arctic stuff. I was all excited to try it, but ened up throwing out most of the pint (which is unheard of in my house).
August 15, 2012 at 5:38 pm
I’m always on the lookout for crazy people when I run. You never know, sometimes!
I love basmati rice. It’s been too long since I’ve had it. I love the combination.
August 15, 2012 at 8:01 pm
I’m not a pasta fan but that looks good!
August 16, 2012 at 2:11 am
Ha, who takes their dogs for walks in the woods at 5am?? Weird!!

I was eating that Arctic Zero stuff a lot when I lived in Austin, pre-veganism. I tried it once after the official “vegan month of food” was over, and I was up all night with excruciating stomach pains.
While this was positive in that it let me know I might need to watch my whey intake, I also never want to eat it again.
