Happy Friday! I have a Five for Friday post for ya. I was just thinking the other day about how my food tastes have changed over the years, and it gave me this post idea. (It’s actually 10 things, but I’m a sucker for alliteration.)
Five things I loved before I became a foodie…
- Sugar-Free Jello: I was a calorie-counting queen in college. I didn’t care what it tasted like; for 10 calories, it was mine!
- Dominoes Pizza: Don’t get me wrong. I’ll still put a hurtin’ on some Dominoes, but it doesn’t compare to other favorites.
- Subway: I used to practically live on Subway, but now it’s basically reserved for road trips only.
- Black Olives: I still love ‘em. Olives and I are very close. However, kalamata have stolen my heart.
- Lean Pockets: When Kevin and I were both working full time (he was actually at about 55ish hours/week), and I was doing part-time grad school, we ate the heck out of some Lean Pockets. If that company’s shares rose in those times, the investors have me to thank for it.
Five things I did not love until I was a foodie…
- Green Smoothies: Especially when served in craft beer pint glasses
- Saison Craft Beers: Some of these babies are really growing on me!
- Eggplant: I’d eat it before, but now I looooooove me some eggplant.
- Wheat Berries: When are we going to start seeing these babies on restaurant menus???
- Goat Cheese: I would have loved it had I discovered it sooner!
- How many of these can you relate to?
- What else would be on your list?

I totally forgot about lean pockets. I’d by them in the family size or whatever and get through them SO fast. Same goes for pizza rolls. I sorta miss them… lol

I can relate to quite a few of those!! Lean pockets were what I ate in law school – and campbell’s soup to go. Period. And domino’s and subway? I was all about quick and easy meals. Now … I don’t have much of any!!
And I didn’t like goat cheese either until I became a foodie.
So fun how we change and evolve

I still love sugar-free Jello….pudding. But I rarely eat it anymore. Sometimes in college I use to make a whole box of it and just eat it over the course of an evening.
That kind of grosses me out now….but I’m not saying I couldn’t do it again.

I can’t believe the stuff I used to eat. It still wasn’t a lot of packaged/fast food stuff… but it was gourmet gluttony. Fancy burgers, pork belly, insance dessert platters… oh, and let’s not forget my the egg and swiss croissant I made every morning for my first 2 years of college. *shudder*

I’m with you on Dominos and Subway! Lived off that stuff in high school.

I also reserve subway for road trips. It seems like it’s the only semi-okay thing to eat on the road.
I also fell in love with green smoothies in that last few years.

I love green smoothies, especially when I put them in pint glasses! It makes me feel like I’m breaking a rule.

Oh man. That is so funny. I constantly think about how differently I eat now than I used to. I used to eat a TON of Chipotle, Popeyes, IHOP (Since I waitressed there), pepperoni, etc. Now I LOVE fresh fruits and veggies. Basically anything ethnic, which is crazy because it used to be all American chain restaurants for me.

I ate a TON of Subway in high school and the first few years of college. Now I avoid that place as much as I can! Olives, I have never liked and I will remove every last one from a sub, salad, pizza, etc if they someone are on something I am going to eat.
