Runner Warm-Up

by Tiff

It was hard to get outside today for my run.  I slept in until 6:45, which felt great, but that made getting moving somewhat difficult.  When your spouse starts making cappuccinos and egg sandwiches in his pajamas, it’s hard to throw on your gear and head out in the 30-something-degree weather.  Why put gloves on my hands when I could be holding a latte instead???

Anyway… I went for a tempo run this morning, and it felt pretty good.  Once I got moving, I was happy to be out there.  A 26-minute run feels short n’ sweet after the 1-hour and 30-minute run I had last weekend.  I completed a 3-mile tempo run before heading in to stretch and get my coffee.

While at the beach last week, I recorded this little video of the moves I do to warm up before every run.  I was going to explain the moves more, but once I got home and heard the sound of the ocean in the background, I just couldn’t make myself record over that.

Stefanie at The New Healthy is having a linkup today.  If you’re a blogger and wrote a fitness related post this week, enter it in the blog party.  If you’re not a blogger (or you didn’t have a fitness post recently), go check out the workouts others have linked.

Okay… that’s all for now.  Have a super Saturday!

  1. I like that video – even though it makes me jealous of your island getaway! I always to front and leg swings before runnning or lifting as well.

  2. MAN that ocean view does look good! I like these two dynamic stretches a lot. I’ve found another good one is hip openers (put your knee up and swing it to the side). Probably because my hips are the part that hurt me the most when I run.

  3. Love those warm up ideas, perfect for when you don’t need to really warm up (ie before a jog or run) but more loosen up. After rest days I sometimes struggle with a little stiffness in my hips and knees etc so these moves are perfect! :) And well done for getting out there and getting your run done! :) Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  4. i love the warm up, but i love the location better. Take me there!

  5. I am freakin AWFUL at warming up. I usually only warm up with a light jog before a race. I love these moves, I’m going to start doing them!

  6. I need to do a better job warming up…and I love the ocean! AHHH!

  7. Warm ups for me are like non-existent. LOL.

  8. Great warm up! The sound of the ocean is just amazing! So soothing.
I am really bad about warming up before a run so these are some great tips.

  9. I am impressed that you get up at 6:45 am to workout on the weekends. That’s awesome…I usually can’t get up until 8 and take my sweet time getting out the door.

    • I’m usually earlier on Saturday than I am Sunday. I sort of wish it were the other way around though, at least for Monday morning’s sake!

  10. The sounds of the birds and the ocean is the background is SO relaxing! I just might watch this video a few times in a row. haha ;) And of course, the warm up moves are great as well! I definitely need to incorporate those more often.

Thanks for linking up!!! I can always count on you. :)

  11. Legs swings are great warm up stretches. We do them for kickboxing too. Good for the hips!

  12. getting out there is sometimes tough but ALWAYS worth it-awesome job girl!

  13. The sound of the ocean is making me so jealous! I also feel super lazy since I slept until 10am on Saturday and you were up at 6:45 (and said it was late haha).

    • I’m not good at sleeping in, especially since my cats keep fidgeting all over the bed from 5:30 until I get up. They’re so impatient! Haha

  14. I love that you say a sleep in is until 6.45 :) I reckon a lot of runners can relate to that! lol!
