It’s time for another What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW) post, and this is what I ate on rainy, gloomy Tuesday. Before the eats, I have to ask… does anyone else feel English when they wear tweed? If it wasn’t so rainy and gloomy, I might have busted out a “Top of the Mornin!’” or “Cheerio!” to my colleagues.
First breakfast = rice cake. Second breakfast = three veggie frittatas (220 total + 35 rice cake)
Lunch = Soup. Soup was perfect for the gloomy, rainy day. I planned for salad, but I didn’t have time to prep it Monday night. (Speaking of salad, check out yesterday’s salad ideas.) FYI, I don’t recommend this soup. (240 calories)
Snack = cottage cheese (90 calories) and an apple (100 calories)
Dinner = Chicken Tagine. I love all the spices, and since my parents are in town, I wanted to make it for them.
It’s one of my favorite meals, and I served it over quinoa.
I may have also had the last wee bit of frosted gingerbread and a Lindtt chocolate for dessert. (Not Pictured)
This all came to a total of approximately 1370 calories. Yup, I’m counting again. As you all know, I count as a guide, not as a huge restriction. Hopefully it will help me get re-acquainted with non-holiday portion sizes. Before you go, be sure to check out the other great meals and snacks at Peas & Crayons!

It’s been rainy here where I live too.
I’m back on track, but still like to enjoy some Christmas cookies for dessert!

Ooh that chicken dish you made for dinner looks amazing
It’s finally been sunny here after about 3 days straight of rain, thank goodness!
December 28, 2011 at 8:22 am
HAha Cheerio!! MAde me laugh. Everything looks yum! I tried to count my calories a few so I could keep up with them and fuel properly, it’s so annoying. It is definitely helpful but I’m just so lazy!
December 28, 2011 at 8:38 am
I love tweed! Hahaha
December 28, 2011 at 8:53 am
Ooo those veggie frittatas look good!! I can’t really count my calories, it just makes me frustrated and annoyed haha.
December 28, 2011 at 8:56 am
I am desperately trying to get back on track. I started with a healthy breakfast this morning, so lets see what happens the rest of the day/week!
December 28, 2011 at 9:26 am
Good luck! For me, one healthy thing usually leads to many healthy things.
December 28, 2011 at 9:06 am
I pretty much stuck w/ a healthy eating plan throughout the holidays. Except for the cinnamon crumb cake from Trader Joe’s that I ate… it was too good to pass up!!
December 28, 2011 at 9:22 am
I had every intention of getting back on track today… but instead, I had leftover lobster mac n’ cheese for breakfast this morning… oops.
December 28, 2011 at 9:27 am
Lobster wouldn’t have kept well anyway, so you *had* to eat it!
December 28, 2011 at 10:16 am
I am still in “holiday eating mode” since the cookies and other treats are still lingering around. However, I am getting a bit sick of it. I may have to throw them all out when no one is looking!
December 28, 2011 at 10:39 am
I just laughed out loud when I read about feeiling English when you wear tweed. Hilarious!
Love your cottage cheese and apple snack. Two of my favorites!
December 28, 2011 at 11:12 am
English in tweed! LOVE it! I thought I was the only one who felt that way in certain clothes, I have a wool peacoat that I always feel a we bit English in:)
December 28, 2011 at 11:26 am
Yes, us English we wear tweed all the time
Tally-ho and what not.
I am eating healthily, mostly the normal food that I eat, but still having a few treats like Christmas cake here and there.
December 28, 2011 at 11:30 am
Haha, yeah – just like those of us in the South live in overalls.
December 28, 2011 at 11:37 am
I would be so hungry on that amount of cals! Although I do have some delicious holiday-ish oatmeal recipes that are pretty darned filling…(they’re on my blog if you’re looking for something different)
December 28, 2011 at 11:43 am
I tend to stay pretty even keeled even through the holidays. I’ll have treats when I crave them but mostly stick to the same general eating I always do (which is really just listening to my body and giving it what it’s craving!).
December 28, 2011 at 12:07 pm
I would be so fatigued eating that low of calories! I don’t know how you do it!! But what ever works for ya! The chicken tagine looks delish! I love how colorful it is!
December 28, 2011 at 1:02 pm
ahhh, I keep meaning to make your tangine recipe! hold me to it, k?
December 28, 2011 at 1:52 pm
i love the tweed pants! very cute. i can’t stand counting calories – i get obsessed with the numbers which is no good. are you sure that’s enough calories for you since you’re so active?
December 28, 2011 at 3:34 pm
Yup, it is. I definitely couldn’t count them alllllll the time, but I like doing it from time to time to keep my portions in-check.
December 28, 2011 at 2:06 pm
You are doing so great! I’m inspired. I had been eating “holiday style” up until yesterday because I was sick and was comforting myself…but I’m back to being serious now! So far I’ve had tea and toast but am ready for a yummy healthy lunch.
December 28, 2011 at 3:33 pm
I’m glad you’re feeling better!
December 28, 2011 at 2:08 pm
Heading over to check out your recipe now…looks great!
xoxo from Trinidad

The veggie frittatas look delicious!
December 28, 2011 at 3:32 pm
Thanks! I was worried they’d look gross. Eggs aren’t always photogenic.
December 28, 2011 at 3:52 pm
I’m working on getting back on that healthy track. Maybe I should start counting calories just to see how far I have to go. What a great idea!
December 28, 2011 at 3:55 pm
Counting calories as a guide is a great way to stay on track. Whenever I feel like I’m getting off track or simply eating too much, I start loosely counting again too.
December 28, 2011 at 6:01 pm
I am not big on calorie counting. I try to eat intuitively, but that being said, I am still in holiday portion mode, and it needs to stop. I am feeling so sluggish and blah this week.
I love frittatas!!
December 28, 2011 at 6:34 pm
Ugh, I know what you mean about reacquainting yourself with normal portion sizes again! Its so hard to remember what a normal portion is around the holidays!
December 28, 2011 at 7:06 pm
I like to loosely count calories as well just to be sure I’m getting enough calories to fuel my body and that I’m getting an adequate amount of nutrients. I know some people have already said this here, but 1,370 calories is quite low, especially if you’re trying to gain weight to get your body ready to have a baby in the near future, like you mentioned in your earlier post. Not trying to preach, but just preparing you to know that you’ll need at least 1,800-2,000 calories when trying to conceive and when your pregnant
December 28, 2011 at 7:10 pm
Oh no, I have a couple years yet for that.
December 28, 2011 at 7:32 pm
I had soup today too. When you are in the mood for soup, nothing else with do. Ellen once said “soup is a blanket for your insides” and its so true!
December 28, 2011 at 7:54 pm
I hadn’t heard that, but I love it!
December 28, 2011 at 7:43 pm
I’m definitely back on track!
December 28, 2011 at 9:54 pm
I have a tweed jacket and I totally do a British accent when I wear it also!! haha!!
That dinner looks just delicious!! YUM!
December 29, 2011 at 8:52 pm
Your pants are so cute. I love tweed! This time of year I love to have soup on hand!
